Thankfully, Logan chuckled. “Yes, baby, you can marry me. I’m the one who asked.”
We laughed as Logan pressed his lips against mine and sought entry into my mouth.
I forced myself to break the kiss off for a moment. “Should you maybe . . . put the ring on?”
“Right!”
We laughed again.
Logan removed the piece of jewellery from its box and our gazes held as he slid it onto my finger. “We are henceforth betrothed.”
We linked our fingers together and I clung to him. I didn’t stare at the ring because it was inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. I stared at him because he was what mattered to me. “I love you, Logan Newcombe.”
“I love you, too, Aria. Soon-to-be Mrs. Newcombe,” Logan mumbled before he pecked my lips.
“Holy fucking shit!”
Both of us jumped a mile when Lily squealed and raced out of her bedroom. “Lily!” I protested as I pressed my fingers into my ear.
“I’m sorry, but I heard the whole thing and holy crap, you guys are getting married!”
“And you’re going to live in Europe!” I returned, mirroring her tone.
“And Joe got into BUDs training!” Lily bounced up and down.
Logan pulled a face. “Poor bastard.”
“And Zoey . . ..” I scratched my head.
“Will still be here,” Lily realised. “All by herself.”
My mouth curved downwards. “What do you mean? I’ll still be here.”
“Yeah, until you get married. Where are you going to live? Here or Virginia Beach or Australia?”
Lily made a good point.
Logan rubbed my back. “We haven’t thought that far ahead yet. As much as I’d like to, I have to get on the road. Liam’s waiting downstairs and we’ve got a long drive ahead of us considering my rehab is in Vermont.”
Lily’s face fell. “Oh my god, good luck.”
“Thank you.” Logan stood and glanced at me. “Walk me out?”
I nodded.
My heart thundered as we left the apartment and caught the elevator down to the ground floor. I didn’t want to say goodbye to Logan again, but I knew I had to. Though it was only for a short time, I knew he would come back to me healthier and stronger.
I waved at Liam as we arrived by the car and chewed my bottom lip.
“Hey.” Logan tugged my hand, encouraging me to face him. “I’ll be back before you know it.”
I pressed my lips against his and kissed him slowly, savouring him and committing him to memory. I broke the kiss off after a few long moments. “Get well soon.”
He stepped off the curb and lowered himself into the car.
Liam flashed me a sympathetic smile. “He’s in good hands, Aria.”
“I know. Thank you, Liam.”
The two of us hugged. I was infinitely grateful for the support he and his wife had shown me from the very first time we met. Soon, they would be more than friends, they’d be family, and that privilege couldn’t go to a better pair of people.
