"Why are you yelling?" Lex asked as he appeared next to me.
"I'm not," I mumbled.
"What did you find out?" Joon asked.
"Three Alphas came in two days ago asking around about wolves with marked skin. My friend," Lex smirked, pointing at the doorway behind him, "says that one of them is the Were King's son."
"Really?" I asked, a little shocked.
"That changes nothing," Joon said firmly.
I nodded in agreement but still couldn't help the uneasy feeling in my gut. No one batted an eye when wolves settled a score or grudge that ended in bloodshed or death, but to kill a noble would mean a bounty on all our heads.
"Anything else?"
Lex shook his head, then adjusted his robes. He seemed to have just realized how dirty he was, a pout firmly on his face. "Once we settle somewhere, I need a meal and to phase,” he said flatly. "I'm sick of this face."
"Come," Joon said. "We're going to the Kaska Inn."
"What's there?" I asked.
Joon pocketed the scrap of paper.
"Our prey."
Kaska Inn
Joon
I hadn't steppedfoot in the Kaska Inn since before I met Fennah. It was the kind of place young Alphas sought out a cheap drink and an even cheaper fuck. Betas, elves, and even a few blood-drinkers worked the customers over every night, bringing them pleasure and occasionally death if they didn't pay their bar tab.
I was worried about dragging Tzidal there, but I didn't want to say it out loud. It was as if she had something to prove lately, and I didn't want her acting irrational just to make a point.
"Okaaay," Lex nodded in approval, looking around the smoky parlor filled with loud, horny beasts of all kinds. "This is my kind of place."
He stepped forward, looking eager to get lost in the crowd, but I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. "I need you," I said.
"I love it when big, sexy men say that to me," Lex smiled.
I groaned and walked to the bar to purchase a room for the night, leaving the siren to watch Tzidal.
Patthar's men believed the Alphas were still here, and my plan was simple enough. First, I needed to track them down. Which, admittedly, was the hard part, but we'd start here at the bar and work our way through the city. Once we found them, I'd return to the Inn and wait. Lex would seduce one of them and bring them up to the room. Then I'd take it from there.
It was simple and bound to go fuck-all wrong. I just hoped we could find at least one of the three Alphas soon. They clearly had more wolves to hunt down, and I had no intention of letting them live long enough to carry out their plans.
I returned with a key in my pocket, noticing a drink in Tzidal's hand. "Where did you get that?"
"That Beta over there bought it for me," she motioned to a short, eager-looking wolf.
"Did you drink any of it?"
"Not yet," she said, eyeing the glass.
I grabbed it, looked directly at the Beta, and threw it down, glass shards spraying all over the floor. The sound could barely be heard over the rowdy customers and jarring music, but I made my point. The Beta's expression went sour as he turned back to his drink.
Tzidal pulled her lips into a tight line, and her nose scrunched up. I was ready for the little beast to give me a fight, but her face fell, looking just past me. She gasped softly, tugging at my arm. "Look!" She gestured to the other side of the room.
Son of a bitch.
