I raised mine and met hers with it, holding them together as I corrected her.
“The best you’ve had… so far. I’m glad you like it.”
She nodded, something I couldn’t quite translate skimming across her look before it flashed back into hiding.
I sipped my drink, then realized I had another card yet to play.
“So… Tisha.”
“Hollis.”
“Speed round. Are you ready?”
Her eyes widened but showed no panic. She nodded, lowering her fork and, finished with her dish, slid it slightly toward the table center.
“I’m ready if you are, sir.”
I soon wondered if I was. Her answers were like lightning, but I kept firing more questions back at her.
“Born?”
“Maryland.”
“Uh… How long?”
“How long was I born in Maryland?”
I smiled. “No. I meant, how long did you live there?”
Her head gently shook. “I have no idea. A couple weeks, maybe? My dad was just finishing up his dissertation. I have no memory there, but I’m pretty sure that he and Mom already had a place picked out for us in Chicago before I was delivered. My birth mom lived outside Baltimore.”
“His name?”
“Uh…”
“You hesitated. Do you not know your father’s name, Tish?”
She glared with eyes drooping, looking genuinely bored with my stupidity.
“Yes, Hollis, I just call him, ‘Dad,’ you know? It’s Rich.”
“Rich?”
She stopped, then nodded. “Yeah, Rich… short for Richard.”
“Okay, is there one of those that he prefers?”
Her head tilted to the side. “Well, Hollis, if you’re looking for pointers for when you call my father and ask him how much to pay for the rights to his daughter… I would suggest picking my mom instead.”
I took it in stride. “Oh, okay. Thanks! That will help out a lot. Her name?”
Her cheeks blushed, and I’m sure mine did as well. There was a playfulness in my eyes, but none danced within Tisha’s. To my surprise, there was something much darker, but not at all outside the idea of playing around.
Slowly she recovered. “Sally. Am I at least going to get compensated in some way for helping you buy me? Master?”
It was my turn to lose my footing, although I wasn’t exactly regretful of the setback.
It had nothing to do with what she said… It was the look she gave while saying it. It flashed like fire, gone in an instant… but I knew just based on my body’s innate reaction, that she had shown, for the first time, something bordering on wanton lust.
