I took a breath, because for all the driving, I still had no idea where to go.
“Sir, how far out of the city are you permitted to take me?” I asked.
The driver met my gaze in the mirror, hesitance evident in the pinched crease between his brows. “Only as far as the ward, Ms. Vaughn.”
The ward which ended dead center in the middle of the river between the cove and the city.
The idea of going back to the tower made me sick.
And being in the middle of an unfamiliar city with zero allies made zero sense to me.
“Fuck it. Take me as far as you can, please.”
