“Keep your voice down, boss,” I said.

“Kim said you were seeing someone new,” he replied.

I gave a start. “How the hell’d she know?”

“Kim said you looked different at the Halloween party. She said you looked the way I looked last season, when I was with her.”

I laughed. “I looked like you? That’s a hell of an insult.”

He narrowed his eyes at me. “You know what I mean. And she was right, after all.”

“All joking aside? I do feel like that. It’s only been a week, but everything just sort of feels right. You know?”

Dallas paused to high-five one of the linemen, then turned back to me. “I’m happy for you. And not just because it means you’re looking sharp on the field.”

“Thanks, partner,” I replied. “I’m tryin’ not to get too excited, though. Everything’s great with her, but it seems almost too great, you know? It can’t be this easy forever.”

Dallas leaned closer to me and smiled. “Want to know a secret? When you find the right woman, it’s always easy.”

He clapped me on the shoulder and went to sit down on the bench with the offensive coordinator. I glanced over to the left, where the cheerleaders were currently dancing. In the front row, next to Isabella, was Taylor. Her mane of auburn hair swirled around her like a halo. Isabella wasn’t looking, so I drank in the sight of Taylor while I could. The way she looked in her skirt made something inside me come alive.

It’s always easy, Dallas’s words echoed in my head. I hope he’s right.

But for now, while I stood on the sideline and cheered on my team, all I could think about were the filthy things I wanted to do to Taylor tonight.
