Page 73 of A Return For Ren

His son had an exciting day and not that long of a nap at Dee’s and was rubbing his eyes in no time even while he was playing.

He got Max out, dried off and in the rocking chair for his final bottle of the night.

Max looked to be sleeping before he was finished. Well, not really falling asleep because he continued to drink with his eyes shut.

He shifted Max enough to put him across his shoulder and try to get a burp out of him. It was almost automatic at this point that Max let out a soft burp, then laid his head down on Ren’s shoulder.

Once Max was in his crib with his pacifier, his stuffed monkey, the night light on and the door shut, Ren turned to go to his room.

Zara was sitting on the bed, her legs crossed, a big smile on her face. “Why are you so happy?” he asked.

“More excited. Max out?”

“He is. Hopefully he’ll be out for the rest of the night. It’s barely eight and I find I’m exhausted.”

“Me too,” she said. “A nice warm shower might put us both out.”

“Plus a little more activity with it,” he said, putting his hand out and pulling her up. He yanked her fast so she would crash into his chest like he’d done so much when they were younger.

He hadn’t done it once since he was back in her life, but she laughed like she had before. A youthful move on his part that resulted in the lifting of his heart.

The light carefree laugh that always sent blood rushing to his cock and fuel to the fire in his belly that led to the rapid beating in his chest.

He hadn’t thought he could fall back in love with her this fast but knew he was.

The way she’d been with Colin and Dee tonight.

Even Cara and Laine. She’d always been good with people and he knew she was with kids.

It seemed everyone loved Zara. It was hard not to.

He hugged her tight and held on for a few minutes. “What’s wrong, Ren?” she asked.

“Nothing. I like to hold you. I don’t get to do it as much as I wish.”

She laughed softly. “We do it enough. It’s not like I’ve got time to do it at work and we aren’t to a point I want anyone knowing there. But I think some are starting to guess.”

“How is that?” he asked.

“You’ve picked Max up late a handful of times and I send everyone home for the day. It’s a pattern.”

“Are you upset over that?” he asked, his hand running down her hair and pushing it behind her shoulder.

“No,” she said. “Someone will ask me when they are ready. Or they won’t because they know you are only here for three months.”

“Or more,” he said.

She poked him in the belly with her finger. Every time he wanted to talk more about the future or made comments like that, she turned it into a joke or a laugh.

He’d have to accept that...for now.

“They don’t know that. No more talking. We need to get cleaned up and that king sized bed of yours is going to give us a lot of room to move around in.”

He stepped back and threaded their fingers together, then pulled her into his bathroom.

It wasn’t as large as he’d like, but it worked for him.

“Let’s get undressed,” he said.
