Willow

Three drinksin and I’m feeling more relaxed than I have in my brother’s presence since last summer when I first slept with Finn. It’s by design though. Because Max refused to head back home. He insisted he was waiting for Evie to get home from prom. That’s what Dad would have done and that’s what he’s going to do.

So, the three of us are lounging by the pool, drinking a fruity punch Finn whipped up, reminiscing about high school. The dances. The parties. People we dated. Who’s doing who now.

We’re gossiping.

Yup. And the boys are leading the conversation like a bunch of little girls, giggling ever few seconds.

Looks like I should have packed an overnight bag. Max planned on staying the night, but I wasn’t expecting to be here this late. Finn and I were going to have one last night alone at his place. But neither of us are in any shape to drive back to school, not that Finn would ever let anyone behind the wheel of his precious Sasha. I don’t think he’s even let Max drive her.

“So, Mom told me a funny story today,” I say when their laughter quiets. “Something about you two getting the very lecture Max delivered to Joe earlier from Dad.”

Finn and Max share a knowing grin.

“What? Are you going to tell me what he said or not?”

“You’ve heard him give the speech before,” Max says.

“Somehow I feel like him giving it to the two of you was different. Maybe less threatening.”

Finn’s burst of laughter has me whipping my head in his direction. He’s seated on the other side of Max, much to my dismay. I was in the middle lounger, but Max stole my seat when I went to the bathroom.

“Try more threatening,” Max blurts out, his own laughter bubbling from his chest.

“What? Why? He knows you two treat women right.”

“That’s exactly it. He wanted to make sure we didn’t forget it either. If I remember right, his exact words were,‘If you look at her and your pants get tight, look away,’or something like that.” Max’s words cause my mouth to drop open in shock.

Oh. My. God.

“He definitely said the word dick. Twice, I think, because the way he was looking at me when he said it made mine shrivel up a little,” Finn adds through deep breaths, attempting to get control of his laughter.

“He did not!” I exclaim, trying to picture my dad talking about Finn’s dick.

“Finn might be right. I do remember having the feeling like I needed to hide my balls after that conversation. Needless to say, sex was the last thing on my mind that night. Heather didn’t take the rejection well.”

That’s because my brother’s high school “girlfriend”, if you could call her that, was a mega slut. Rejection wasn’t something she was familiar with when it came to sex. I’m fairly certain she slept with half of their graduating class and half of mine.

Those messages you find written on the walls of bathroom stalls, that was like Heather’s business card.

For a good time, call …

And the thing is, she wasn’t even apologetic about who she was. She didn’t care if people thought she was a slut. I will give her some props, though. If she was dating someone, they were the only person she was sleeping with. When she was with Max, he was the only one dipping his stick in her.

For his sake, let’s hope he wrapped it up.

“What about you, Finn? Did my dad ruin your chances of getting laid that night, too?”

His face contorts a little before he shakes his head, causing my stomach to churn.

“Hell no!” Max hollers. “Finn went with that college chick. If he didn’t put out, he would have ruined his badass rep with the ladies.”

It’s clear Finn doesn’t like this conversation, but Max can’t tell because his back is to Finn. So, when he keeps talking, I’m not surprised Finn gets up and walks inside.

“Way to go, jackass,” I snarl at him as I stand, grabbing my empty glass off the patio.

“What’d I do?”
