“Anything goes in a fantasy,” he hedged. “So what other qualities does your perfect man have?”
“Well, billionaire Chris Hemsworth is a start.” She looked Sam over from head to toe. Amusement gleamed in her brown eyes. “He’s lean and…let’s see, he has curly blond hair and the features of a nobleman. He shaves every day. He has charm and an outgoing personality.”
“Interesting.” He narrowed his eyes. Her “perfect man” sounded nothing like him.
“My perfect man knows exactly how to treat a woman, especially me, of course.” She lifted a hand and began ticking the points off on her fingers. “He chews food politely and never while talking. He’s very social, attends lots of events, and can talk about anything from antiques to the latest sports statistics. He’s generous, attentive, and he knows what I want and need without me having to tell him.”
“How does he know that?”
“It’s instinctive, like a sixth sense.” She pursed her lips. “You probably don’t believe in that kind of thing. But since my perfect man and I are destined to be soulmates, One True Loves, he would justknowthese things about me.”
“What kind of things? Like your favorite food?”
She smirked. “Am I hearing this right? Is Sam Donovan, Bliss Cove’s resident curmudgeon, actually teasing me?”
“I’m just wondering how your perfect guy knowsinstinctivelythat you like fried jumbo shrimp, cosmopolitans, and double-chocolate brownies.”
Her eyes widened.
Sam groaned inwardly.Shit.Way to speak without thinking first. Brooke was too sharp not to pick up on the subtext of his remark.
“How did you…” Her voice trailed off.
He shrugged, as if it were insignificant. “All girls like those things.”
“Notall.” She crossed her arms. “Rory hates cosmopolitans, and my friend Bee is allergic to shellfish.”
“Must’ve been a lucky guess, then.”
She gave him a puzzled stare. She opened and closed her mouth, blinked, then shook her head and went into the kitchen.
Sam turned his attention back to his computer. He was beginning to think he might be in trouble.
