She inclined her head. “Of course, Your Grace.” She paused, before continuing softly. “Though your motives remain a mystery to the both of us, I thank you for the visit. I’ve been cheered immensely, if only temporarily.”

“I am pleased to be of service.” He was not pleased. Not at all. Sebastian rose and gave her a courteous bow. “Until next time, Miss Highbridge.”

“Might you come for tea, tomorrow?” She asked, genuine friendship in her expression. “I may have news of our friends’ endeavor by then.”

Sebastian inclined his head with a courteous but carefully blank smile. “Perhaps,” he said and continued out of the parlor, not releasing the breath he’d been holding until the fresh spring air swept over his face.
