Page 60 of A Dark Fall

I feel his heart beating fast through his chest. I wonder then if there will ever be a time where I can ask him what’s wrong and he’ll tell me.

He lowers his head to burrow his face into my neck. “Mmm, don’t shower.”

“What?”

“I fucking like the idea of you at work, smelling of me.” He pulls back and smiles wickedly. “You’re going to be late if you shower.” He looks at his watch then holds it out in front for me to see.

Christ,is that the time? Iam going to belate if I shower.

“You’re filthy,” I tell him. Despite that, my stomach flips at the idea of being at work, smelling of him.

“Yeah, I know.” He nods, unashamed, as he leans in to kiss me. It’s slow and sensual, and I feel the heat start to build again.

When people talk about being weak at the knees, it’s normally always an exaggeration. This isn’t. My legs buckle slightly.

“Just stay here with me instead,” he breathes between kisses. “Let’s go back in there and fuck again.”

I almost groan with want. I want to do that. Mentally, I run through my diary to find the next available day where I can do that. Saturday.

“Another day, maybe ... I’m already running late, remember?” I say.

He gives me his adorable little boy pout and presses into me once more.

While I brush my teeth, he stands behind me, hugging me close to his chest and watching my every move in the mirror. Every so often, he leans in to kiss the top of my head or the side of my neck. It feels intimate, and a stir of something fond bubbles up in my chest. I like the sight of his strong, tanned, tattooed body close to my smaller, paler one. He makes me feel safe.

That slow-motion fall also feels a little speedier now. I haven’t hit the ground yet, but it’s coming up to meet me fast. This is going to bloody hurt.

“I’m telling my best friend about you tonight,” I say, mouth half-full of toothpaste.

He stands up straighter, his expression changing imperceptibly.

“Her fiancé saw us together last night.”

“You haven’t told her about me already?” He lowers his head to bite my shoulder softly. “I thought girls told each other everything. So, she’s got no idea how big my dick is?” He’s grinning now, and I can’t help but laugh.

“I suppose I wasn’t sure what there was to tell before.” I drop my head to spit out the toothpaste as neatly as possible before leaning down to rinse my mouth. As I do this, Jake gathers and holds my hair, making it look like the most natural thing in the world.

Falling.

“And what’ll you tell her now?” he asks.

Honestly, I have no idea what to tell Robyn. She can read me like a book. I won’t be able to hide anything from her.

“Um, how about that you are a completely hot sexual deviant who could have someone’s eye out with his cock?” I burst out laughing, cheeks reddening as I turn to face him. His face is open and warm as he looks at me.

When he leans down to kiss me, I’m certain my brain switches off entirely, so lost in him that we might have been kissing for hours, not seconds.

“Okay, now I’mreallyrunning late.” I slip away from him reluctantly.

In the bedroom, I pull out clean underwear and quickly slide it on before going to shake out my dress and climb back into it. Jake dresses quietly too, watching me as he does, a hot look on his face.He comes up behind me and fastens my zip, kissing me gently on the back of my neck as he buttons the small button. By the time we get to the bottom of the stairs, I’m so bloody late, and the hall clock reads 1:35 p.m.

“When can I see you?” Jake asks as he finishes buckling his belt.

“I’ll call you tonight?”

He nods. “Thanks for having lunch with me, Doctor. It was really fucking tasty.”

I blush. “It was my pleasure—again.” I honestly don’t know who I am anymore.
