Elle was not the kind to be thoroughly fucked then sent on her way with a pat on the rear.

But he wanted her anyway.

And Max generally got what he wanted.

The woman chose that moment to chance a glance back in his direction. By the quick widening of her eyes and the swift inhale through parted lips, it was clear she hadn’t known he was watching her. Then her eyes narrowed to a glare and she gave a short huff.

Max was surprised to feel a swift and intense rush of anticipation as he waited to hear what she’d say.

“Have you nothing better to do than stare at me?” she asked sharply.

He smiled and was pleased to see her breath quicken just a bit. “Countless things. Come back to me lap and I’ll demonstrate a few.”

Her growl of annoyance was extremely unladylike. The almost feral sound went straight to the core of him. He’d always taken great pleasure in hearing a lover’s soft pleas and desperate whimpers. But he suddenly felt like he’d be willing to give up half his wealth to hear this fair beauty growl in want of him.

As lust thundered back to his cock, hardening him in an instant, he couldn’t fight the groan of discomfort that rumbled quietly in his chest.

Elle heard it and her eyes flickered over him in curiosity, inevitably landing on that increasing part of his anatomy. Her eyes flew back to his face with a gasp. “You’ve no shame at all, do you?” she asked.

Max chuckled. “Not even a little.”

She gave another huff then turned her gaze back to the window.

But her legs shifted restlessly beneath her gown, her breasts rose and fell with heavy breaths, and her hands crushed the velvet of her cloak in tight fists.

Max grinned.

Stretching his legs out in front of him and crossing his ankles, he linked his fingers across his abdomen in a deceptively casual pose.

He wondered if she realized that her stubborn resistance would only make her surrender that much sweeter.

For both of them.

Chapter Six

“Unacceptable,” Elle stated firmly. “I’ll not share a room with you.”
