“There’s been a lot of crying going on lately,” I whispered.
My mom chuckled wetly, shaking her head. “At least it’s happy tears for once.”
I nodded, completely serious. “That is true.”
“I’m so sorry, Lily. I hope you can forgive me for keeping you from him.”
“Mom, you were doing what you thought was right. Considering what I know about Jason’s father, I don’t blame you. You have nothing to be sorry or forgiven for. Don’t worry about me. I am curious though - is Simon also Jessica’s father?” I asked. My mom was already shaking her head.
“No, he was another member of the pack. I had a moment of weakness when the loneliness got to be too much. I hated it at the same time as I craved it. I just couldn’t stand being alone any longer. I needed human contact. Although it didn’t turn out the way I thought it would,” My mom replied, a tear falling down her cheek as she turned her head away in shame.
“We had a happy childhood and felt the love of an amazing parent. Talk to Simon. Reconnect or don’t, but don’t base your decision about him on us. We just want you to be happy.”
“Thank you,” She whispered, giving me a tight hug. We stood up and walked to the door and opened it up to see Simon standing there, his hungry gaze going straight for my mom.

We left Annette and Simon in the room while Lily and I walked through the castle. I held Lily’s hand the entire time, not willing to part from her just yet. My wolf needed the physical touch. We had been away from her for too long. She obviously felt the same since she didn’t argue or try to get out of my grip. We strolled outside, going to sit in the garden. There was a wooden swinging bench in the center that had a wooden canopy shade built over it. Once settled into the swing, I tucked Lily into my side, wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close and pushing the bench slightly so that we rocked softly. She sighed happily and snuggled in closer.
“We need to talk about this, Lily.”
She scowled, pulling away from me. “No, we don’t.”
“You just found out who your father is, I just killed my father, the rebels are a problem, you are now the Queen of Wolf Hollow, and you’ve reconciled with your family. We need to talk about something because keeping it inside is not good for anyone,” I finished. I gave her a pointed look and she glared at me. I smirked, knowing I was right. She knew it too which is why she was grumbling under her breath at me.
I laughed, hearing everything she was saying to me perfectly. I tapped under her chin to get her to bring her beautiful eyes back to me. “You know I can hear every word out of that pretty little mouth of yours, right?”
“Yeah, I know, asshole.”
“So, tell me what’s going on in that pretty little head, then.”
“Maybe I don’t want to tell you.”
“Oh, I know you don’t want to tell me, but you’re going to.”
Lily folded her arms and stared me down. It made my cock twitch, seeing her try to defy me. My wolf was ready to mount her that second. I raised an eyebrow. She raised both of hers. “Says who?”
“I say so.”
Lily laughed, shaking her head. She unfolded her arms and looked out at the forest, staring off into the distance. I watched the way her mind whirled as she sorted through her thoughts. I waited as patiently as I could for her to tell me what was on her mind. I could only imagine what she was going through. She opened her mouth to start talking, but was immediately interrupted when Laura called my name. I frowned at the interruption, but got up, walked around the swing and wrapped my sister in my arms. I looked over her shoulder to see my mother standing there, a smile on her face though the lines of exhaustion seemed more prominent than normal.
“Lily!” Amara rushed forward, wrapping Lily in her arms. I pulled back from Laura, glancing at the two of them before turning back. “Everything go okay? You were safe during your trip back?”
Laura scoffed, looking pissed. “Of course we were safe. Dean wouldn’t let us be anything less.”
“Well, that’s his job. He’s my Beta and needed to make sure that the King’s sister and mother were absolutely safe.”
Laura’s eyes widened. “Holy shit, I completely forgot you’re the King now! That’s so weird. Do I have to call you Your Majesty and shit?”
I laughed when Laura’s nose wrinkled in disgust and annoyance. I ruffled her hair, amused at her reaction. “Only at formal times, kiddo.”
“I’m not a kid!”
“Sure you are. You’re the King’s kid sister. Enjoy it.”
“Whatever.”
