My mom laughed. “But love doesn’t abide the clock.”

“We’re talking love now?” I shook my head. “Dad, can I have your margarita?”

“It’s a double.”

I laughed and shook my head. “Never mind. I have to drive.”

“Since the Sunshine Breakfast Club seems to have some sort of vested interest in my relationship, what is it that would make you happy?” I eyed Millie.

“I know my granddaughter. She’s not very good at picking men.”

I scowled.

“Present company excluded, of course,” she added.

I couldn’t believe this. I wasn’t crazy. This book club was nuts.

“We have an amazing score for matchmaking.”

I laughed, shaking my head.

“I hate to break it to you, but the club wasn’t responsible for my connection with Maya.”

Millie grinned. “How do you think you met her?”

“She rented a place from me to get away from a bad set of circumstances.”

My mom flashed a wicked grin. “You think you’re the only one who has vacation rentals?”

“Grace convinced Maya that she needed to rent from you,” Millie added.

“Okay, fine.”

“And considering how beautiful of a yard Becky and her husband have, do you think it might be an odd coincidence that they suddenly have a branch blocking the address? The limb didn’t even match the tree they’d tied it to, but you didn’t notice.” Millie beamed. “You know, Becky could have driven Maya to her rental. She would have had it not been a plan.”

I groaned. “Fine. I get it. The club has an uncanny ability to put two people together in various situations, shake them up well, and see what happens.”

“Love,” Millie said. “Love is what happens.”

I shook my head and laughed. “If only life were so simple. I appreciate the thought. I know it all comes from a place of well-meaning, but...”

“You’ll believe in it for your brother, but you won’t believe in it for yourself?” my mom asked.

“What do you mean?”

“You’re helping him to meet Daisy.”

I stood and laughed, glancing at my dad. “I am not part of this conspiracy.”

“Whatever you say,” Millie hummed. “I just know that my granddaughter is head over heels for you.”

“Yeah?”

She nodded. “She can’t stop talking to Grace about you, and now that Grace got engaged...”

A few seconds passed.

“What? What were you going to say?”
