He nodded, and a few seconds passed, so I tried again.

“Does your mom cut your hair?”

He rocked back on his heels and grinned. “Nope.”

“Then what?”

“I use a Flowbee,” he confessed.

My jaw dropped open. “You use a vacuum attachment to cut your hair?”

He scratched his chin. “Sure do. It chops it and sucks it right up.”

I stood in complete awe. Cash truly was a fascinating human being.

Pouring some more lemonade, I stared at my glass. I didn’t want him knowing just how impressed I’d become by my sexylandlord. “Wow. That’s pretty awesome.”

“Awesome?”

I nodded, handing him lemonade. “Completely awesome. I always get a little weirded out when guys spend like two hundred bucks on a haircut.” I shrugged. “It’s nice to see that a vacuum can do just as good a job.” I smiled. “I cut my own hair too.”

“No way.”

“Yup.” I grinned. “I just twist and chop. Twist and chop.”

Somehow, through all our chatting, we were less than a foot apart.

Cash took a swig of lemonade like it was honey whiskey and smiled before setting his empty cup on the counter.

Definitely all man.

The scent of his soap wafted between us, a hint of pine, possibly. It was nearly intoxicating. I looked toward the open door to the library before bringing my gaze back to his.

There was something conflicted in his smoldering gaze. “I’m sorry about barging in on your family reunion tonight. Jackson was pretty relentless.”

Shock registered through me. “Oh, my gosh. I’m happy to have you. You’re a good distraction with everything going on. Plus with Carter around, I might need a decoy for him to target.”

He nodded, but his brows furrowed. “Distraction?”

His voice was husky.

I leaned in and smiled. “You know, easy on the eyes... and it’s fun to try to get you to crack a smile.”

The right side of his mouth curled into a sexy smirk, and I let out a laugh. “See? I did it again. You smiled. If I shower you with compliments all the time, I just might get to see more of it.”

He nodded as my sister and Jackson came back inside, but his smile instantly dropped.

Grace’s hand came up to her mouth. “Oh, did we interrupt something?”

Cash jerked away and shook his head. “Not in the slightest.” He sounded gruff, and I had to keep in a chuckle.

His green eyes flicked to mine, and it felt like I was flying down a zipline with no way of braking.

Chapter Four

Cash

Reason four hundred and thirty-six that living in a small town could be rough for a guy who wanted to remain single and in solitude for eternity was that four hundred and thirty-five other people wanted to set you up.
