Cash leaned against the kitchen cabinet and rested an elbow against the counter. He looked irresistible with his dark hair and muscular build. Part of me wanted to imagine him putting Rob in his place, but the saner part of me knew better.

“I got a text from Nate that Rob was seen checking into Buttercup Lodge.”

Just the thought annoyed me beyond no end. This was my special place, even if it was only for a couple of months.

“I figured I’d have the best chance of running into him on his first day here,” he continued. “I called my dad and explained the situation, and we basically sat in the lounge until I spotted him. He was in his room a lot longer than I expected.”

“Then why couldn’t you answer a text?”

“I’m very acquainted with Murphy’s Law. I knew the second I looked down at my phone, he’d wander through and out the lobby, and I’d miss him.”

I nodded.

“Finally, he wandered off the elevator, and I caught up to him with my dad.”

“Why’d you want your dad with you?”

His gaze hardened, and I blurted out what my grandma had told me. “My grandma said your dad was in the special forces. Did you need some extra muscle?”

Cash’s lip curled up slightly at the revelation. “Yes, but that wasn’t why I called him. Although, he would be the one I’d want by my side if shit hit the fan.”

“Well, did it hit the fan?” My pulse quickened.

“No. My dad was there recording the interaction on his phone because I don’t trust the weasel, but I just asked why he was here and got no clear response other than he wants to reconcile.”

“Pfft.” I shook my head. “Disgusting.”

Cash nodded. “And I wanted to put him on notice that we knew he was here, that there are enough people who will be watching. I have no idea what he plans or planned to do. But I’ll just be glad we’re headed out camping soon.”

“So, you didn’t punch him?”

Cash chuckled. “I wanted to a couple of times, but I refrained.”

I stepped toward Cash with my boot thudding with me and rested my hands on his chest. I let out a deep sigh, realizing how protected I felt for the first time in my life.

Cash smiled at me and gently kissed me. His lips were soft, but the need was running hard between us.

It was almost impossible to stand as he kissed me. I sank into him as he let out a sexy growl.

We hugged and kissed and ripped clothes off my body and his as we made our way up the stairs.

Cash scanned my nearly naked body before taking a step forward, our eyes locked on one another’s. He slowly brushed his jaw along my collarbone, sending a wave of shivers through me. This was the most vulnerable I’d ever felt, but I also felt needed, wanted, and more powerful than ever before.

My pulse ran wild, and my head was dizzy with lust.

“I need you, Cash,” I whispered, standing bare.

His mouth slowly opened as he peppered kisses along my bare skin, creating a frenzy of need. When my hand slid along his hard stomach, he caught my wrists in his hand, and I’d never felt so small.

“I need to taste you, Maya.” He moved his fingers along my thighs and underneath the cotton of my underwear, moving into my slit as his mouth came closer to mine.

“Bed,” he whispered between kisses.

I could only utter a simple yes as he picked me up and carried me over. He stretched my hands over my head as his gaze canvassed my body.

“You’re the most beautiful woman, Maya. I can’t wait to be inside you.”

Hearing those words made me squirm under his presence, writhing my hips to seduce him.
