Brielle slid her sunglasses off and smiled at me. “Sounds awesome.”
“Yeah. I suppose it is.” I glanced at Hunter, who seemed oblivious as I pushed the button.
The trailer expanded as the dining room unfolded, and the living room became nearly the size of an apartment home’s space.
“Wow. I’m officially impressed.” She clapped her hands and sat back down, but she didn’t take her gaze off me.
I glanced over at Maya in the kitchen, who waggled her brows in my direction. She’d obviously noticed the sudden attention I was receiving as well.
Rubbing my hands together, I walked over to Maya, leaned over her shoulder, and whispered, “What are you making?”
She curled her fingers through my hair and happily hummed. “A charcuterie board, or as my grandma calls it, cheese, crackers, and a bit of salami.”
I lowered my lips to her ear. “Is the fancy woman still staring at me?”
Maya chuckled and nodded. “Yeah. At times.”
Hunter wandered over and stole a piece of cheese off the platter.
“Sorry for interrupting you two lovebirds, but I’m going to take Brielle on a hike. Just wondering if you two would like to join us.”
“Does she know you’re taking her on a hike?” I asked, surprised.
Maya snorted, and Brielle looked over, throwing Maya daggers.
“No, but I want her to see what the Northwoods have to offer.”

“Why do you care if she does?” I whispered to my brother.
“I see potential.”
That was enough for me. I didn’t agree with it, and I certainly didn’t see it, but far be it from me to get in the way of it.
“Maya and I’ll catch the next one with you two. We’ll just stay back and get everything organized, if that’s okay with you, Maya.”
“So okay,” she spat out as fast as possible.
Hunter smiled and nodded. “Have fun.”
“Oh, that reminds me.” I wandered to a cabinet and pulled out a sign. “If you see this hanging on the door, you know, stay busy.”
My brother grabbed the sign and started cracking up.
“What? What’s it say?” Brielle asked, looking over his shoulder.
She started to read each word very slowly, whispering it to herself.
Maya leaned over and started chuckling. “Seriously?Don’t come a-knockin' if the Winnie is a-boppin.’”
Brielle looked confused while tears streamed down Maya’s face. Hunter smacked my back and shook his head. “I’m so disappointed in your humor.”
“Let’s go on your first official hike, Brie,” Hunter said, scooping her hand in his.
