“Lovely choice.” She placed it in my hand.
The blonde sneered.
I turned the ring from side to side. Smiling at the way the light caught not only the stones, but the etching along the edges of the platinum band. Long ago, Nico had showed me her mother’s wedding ring. She’d gone on and on about the rectangle diamond, and the way it glittered and gleamed.
This is the one. Just because it’s a fake marriage doesn’t mean she shouldn’t have the ring of her dreams.
“I’ll take it.”
The young woman bit her lower lip. “How would you like to pay for this, sir?”
Rather than using the very real card with a very fake name, I pulled out my wallet and handed her my American Express Black.
The blonde who’d treated me like something she found on the bottom of her shoe went pale.
My new favorite salesperson flashed me a bright smile. “Thank you, Mr. Marchionni. Congratulations. Whoever this is for is a very lucky woman.”
Now all I have to do is convince her to go along with my plan.
