“We’ve only been married twenty-four hours. It’s way too soon to start thinking about having kids.” He ran his hand over his head. “We should wait at least a year, spend some time traveling, buy a house.”
First he says now, then he says a year?I sank to the edge of the bed. “I don’t want to bring a child into this world to force our parents to accept our marriage, but I do want to have a family with you.”
“Yeah?” His eyes widened. “Are you sure? Babies are always leaking from one end or the other and they’re noisy.”
“I’m scared what happened to my mom will happen to me, and I know absolutely nothing about raising kids, but yes, I’m sure.”
He knelt in front of me. “Medicine has come a long way in twenty-six years, but if you’re worried, we can see a specialist to make sure everything…” He motioned to my midsection. “Is working properly.”
“Thanks, but I saw a specialist in Paris. He said all of my pieces and parts are healthy, but I worry. I mean, I’ve asked what happened to her…medically, but no one seems to know.”
“We could get a second opinion.” Marco rested his hands on my thighs. “As for you knowing nothing about raising kids, we have Hildie, Maria, and Maggie to answer our questions.”
I couldn’t help but smile. “I’m sure I want to have your children. So sure I think we should start trying tonight.”
“Tonight?” He nuzzled into my chest. “I liked the sound of that. It might take a few months before we get it right.”
“True. Practice does make perfect.” I slid my arms around his neck.
Marco flashed me his thinking-about-sex smile. “Or in our case, practice makes babies. I just wish we would have had this conversation before I braved a cottonmouth to get condoms.”
I gave him a patient smile. “Sweetheart, it was a black snake.”
“Fine, but it was a big one.”
