I hear a very unladylike scoff come from beside me, “Oh my God, how could I forget. I walked right into you. I was so embarrassed.”

I smile at the memory of watching it all unravel in slow motion. Her not looking where she was going, yet me not doing anything to get out of her way. I admit to her for the first time that it wasn’t her fault. “That wasn’t your fault, ya know.” She whips around facing me, lying on her side next to me on the lounger.

“What? What do you mean it wasn’t my fault?”

I chuckle at her fiery attitude coming out. “When I saw you steaming down that corridor I couldn’t look away. You were like nothing I had ever seen before. I was mesmerised by you.” She gasps and covers her mouth with the hand that’s not resting on my chest. “I didn’t mean for you to run into me, but I couldn’t move out of your way. When you stood up and looked back up at me, I knew then that we’d share something special. That was until your brother came up and introduced us. That moment devastated me.”

Tears well in Iris’ eyes and I can’t stand to see them there. “Don’t cry, baby girl.” She sniffles and holds my hand to her cheek where I was wiping the tears away.

“I remember too,” she barely breathes, “you used the cheesiest pickup line, but I remember. You called me an Angel.”

The only response I have is to snuggle her close and tell her the honest truth.

“Because you are.”
