"What, oh, us? Everything," I said. I took a step closer to Micah and wrapped my arms around him. "We're us."
Micah looked down at me with a smile and Jordan let out a sigh of contentment at the sight of us.
"I can't believe we ever weren't us," I added.
"That is the best thing I've ever heard," Jordan said.
Just then Ryan hurled a football into the kitchen.
"Dude!" JD said as it whizzed past him. It was a pass that was intended for Micah, and he easily let go of me and caught it above his head. I hadn't seen my brother throw it, but Micah must have because he caught it like he was expecting it.
"Let's go swimming," Ryan said.
Micah threw the ball back to my brother who had his hands out and ready like he was waiting for it.
"Go ahead," Micah said.
"Are you coming?" Ryan asked, passing the ball again.
"Sure," Micah answered. "I have to go change."
Ryan held his hands open, and Micah passed it back to him one last time.
Micah took off toward his bedroom, and everyone else made their way outside toward the pool.
I stayed behind to wrap things up and store the leftovers, and Jordan stayed with me. We were still in there a minute later when Micah made his way back outside.
"I've always loved Micah's music so much," Jordan said when he closed the door. "I still have to pinch myself that I get to come over here and hang out at his house."
I smiled at her as I closed the door to the fridge. "I know, he's so talented. I have to pinch myself, too."
"I think you two are so perfect," she added, causing me to glance at her. "I do," she said. "I know you and I really never talked about it all that much, but JD has told me about Micah holding a torch for you all these years. I think it's just so romantic that you two would end up together."
"I'm so thankful, honestly, Jordan—that he didn't give up on me—that I didn't miss my chance."
"Both of you look really happy," she said. "JD and I are both so happy for you. We were pinching and poking at each other a minute ago when you were in here being so cute together."
I laughed as I wiped the bar. "I don't deserve him," I said.
"I’m under the impression that he's the one who feels like he doesn't deserve you."
"Who told you that?"
"My husband," Jordan said. "JD has been silently rooting for y'all for years."
"Isaac knew Micah loved me a long time, too. How come no one told me?"
"Because of what we were just saying," she said. "Because he thought he didn't deserve you. I think they were sworn to secrecy about it because Micah didn't think he was good enough for you."
"Yeah, but they know better than that," I said, looking at Jordan with a confused expression.
She shook her head and shrugged. "They were sworn to secrecy about it."
I let out a sigh, looking out the windows at the patio area where they had all gone out to the pool. I had no idea how I was missing it before. Now that I was with Micah, it was like the last piece of puzzle had clicked into place. I was finally at home, and it was such a satisfying feeling.
"Well, the road was a little curvy, but it all worked out," I said.
"It all worked out big time," she said. She smiled and moved to get up. "Are you coming swimming?" she asked as she started shedding her shirt.
