“I was able to get a good picture of the vehicle they left in and sent it out to the guys as well as the detective once Poseidon gave me his information,” I reply. “Now, I’ve been trying to track their movements through the city’s CCTV system. I’ve got a general idea of where they’re holed up at and hopefully, we find them before the cops do.”

I’ve never felt as pissed and irate as I do right now and while I don’t typically condone violence as a way to settle disputes, I want these people to pay for their sins against my family. If that’s with their lives, so be it. I’m all about an eye for an eye as justification, although I don’t know if Poseidon would let it get to that point. Granted, he’d have to stop me and get through the wall of old ladies first to stop me, but maybe they’d be better served to go to prison for their crimes. I’m sure once word gets out and about that they kidnapped a disabled child, their lives would be a moot point. That thought has a sinister smile crossing my face as I continue to soothe my old lady.

“Who would take him?” she questions. “That’s what I don’t understand, Specks!”

I rearrange her so she’s sitting sideways on my lap and turn my attention back to my monitor where a screenshot of the two jackasses who took Noah resides. I hear her gasped “no” and glance sharply at her. “Do you know who they are?” I query.

“They’re Foster’s trashy parents! What the hell is going on?” she rages, her voice louder and more dominant than I’ve ever heard. “They wantednothingto do with me or Noah after Foster died. When I let them know I was pregnant and expecting his child, they basically told me to go fuck myself and cut off all contact.”

“I bet they saw y’all’s interview,” I utter, my fingers flying over the keyboard as I input several more searches. “Do you think they’re after money?”

Her laugh is somewhat brittle sounding, as though she’s at the end of her rope and close to snapping but she replies with a calm and cool demeanor, “Most definitely. They probably think we’re loaded with an abundance of cash since I packed up and moved across the country. They don’t realize that the majority of the settlement I got from the oil company is invested for Noah’s future. I mean, I don’t have to work if I don’t want to like I’ve told you before, but I can’t just sit around on my ass all day long. What lesson would I be teaching my son if I sat around and lived like a lazy bum, not earning my own keep, being productive, and investing income into society?”

That niggle in the back of my mind earlier suddenly crystallizes. “I just remembered something, babe. Shit, I can’t believe I forgot this. I put a hotspot on his tablet so he’d always have Wi-Fi accessibility regardless of where it is available to him, which, if memory serves, means I can try to pinpoint his approximatelocation using the GPS’ find me feature.” Once again, my digits are moving as I input the parameters I need to activate the location setting. After hitting enter, I sit back, pull her closer, and keep an eye on my screen while it scans through the data. “Now we wait, Kaya.”

The monitor comes alive, and I see road graphs begin to populate on the screen as a small blue dot steadily heads northbound on the interstate. Picking up my phone, I hit Poseidon’s number on my favorites list and when he answers, I tell him, “They’re heading north on I-95, brother. Looks like they’re just outside of Brunswick so they definitely got a head start. Fuck!”

“Atlas and Trident were already on I-95 heading that direction, Specks, since it’s the major interstate in and out of here. I’ll let them know and see if they can speed up and catch up to them. Have you figured out what they’re driving yet?”

“Yeah, brother. I’ll shoot you the information so you can get it to them.” I know they’re wearing their Bluetooth helmets so he can call into it and give them the details. They’re probably going faster than the speed limit anyhow and can hopefully find the vehicle Noah’s been driven away in before too much more time passes by.

Since I have the call on speaker, Kaya asks, “Poseidon, if they catch up to them, can the police deal with it? I just want my son back, but I don’t want you guys doing anything to get yourselves into any trouble. Please?”

I hear Poseidon’s sigh before he somewhat agrees, “Kaya, I can’t say they’ll arrive in police custody without any undue harm coming their way. You know that, right? Y’all are family andno onefucks with our family and skates by with only a spanking.”

“They’d hit a woman?” Kaya asks, her face thunderstruck. “I mean, she’s a piece of shit, but still, she’s a woman after all.”

“No, they wouldn’t even though she had no problem putting her hands on Chelsea. Trust us, Kaya, we’ll get him back.” He disconnects the call without any further promises, leaving us sitting there watching as the vehicle travels further away from us.

CHAPTER

FOURTEEN

Noah

I’mglad I hid my tablet from the mean people because the man snatched me and my backpack up then carried me into a hotel room. I pay attention to where I am in case I can get back on my tablet so I can tell Mr. Specks where I’m at and then he and Mommy can come and get me.

He drops me hard on one of the beds and I cry out because it hurt my leg and hip when I landed wrong. “Shut up, you stupid brat!” he yells.

Even though I might get hit again, I decide to ask if I can play my game. “Can I play my game?”

He starts to raise his hand at me, but the woman looks at him, shakes her head telling him no, and he drops it without hitting me. “Will it keep you quiet?” she asks me.

“Yes, ma’am.”

Looking at him, she says, “I don’t see any harm in it, and it’ll keep him occupied while we figure out what our next step is.” She turns to me and keeps talking. “Go ahead, Noah. You can play your game. Just keep your mouth shut.”

Pulling my tablet out, I see that Mr. Specks tried to talk to me again. Keeping an eye on the two people, I see they’re busy arguing again, their voices low but mean-sounding. Shuddering, I try to get more comfortable even though my leg hurts really bad before I type my words out to Mr. Specks again.

Noah : I’m here. We are in a room.

Mr. Specks : Good job, Noah. Do you know the name of the place where you’re at?

Noah : A piece of payper on the taybul says Red Roof Inn but I don’t no wer.

Mr. Specks : It’s ok, Noah. I do and am sending help.

Noah : Ok. My leg herts.
