Page 53 of Powerful Deception

I want to tell Arianna to give up, that Alessandra isn’t going to speak, but a part of me wants to be optimistic with her and believe that it will happen.

Arianna lets out a sigh and reaches for Alessandra, who gladly goes into her arms.

While the girls clean, I grab Angel from the highchair and clean up the mashed banana as best I can. The kid has it all over his hair so if we are going to go anywhere, he’s going to need a bath.

Soon the flour and pancake batter are cleaned up and I’m flipping pancakes while Arianna reads the kids a book at the table.

As I plate two pancakes an odd sensation flows through me.

Normality.

Nothing in this house has felt normal in almost eight months, yet here I am flipping fucking pancakes for the nanny.

I’m a mob boss for fuck sakes, I should be planning which head I’m going to chop off next. Not having quiet Sundays wanting to know if the nanny’s pussy tastes like blueberries or not.

She’s twenty-four, Dante and she’s lying about who she is.

For some reason, I keep forgetting that small detail. On top of the fact that I know she’s Joseph’s daughter.

I really need to get my shit together.

Finishing up the rest of the pancakes, I grab the plates and take them over to the table.

After cutting up the kids’ food into little pieces, the four of us eat, mostly in silence with a few giggles and baby talk from Angel.

“I have—”

“What are you—”

We both start and stop at the same time.

Blush creeps up her cheeks before she waves at me to speak. “Go ahead.”

“I was going to say that I have a meeting tomorrow. It’s in the morning and I don’t know how long it will take, so I might be back late.”

The meeting with the king of Chicago is finally happening and I’m trying not to roll my eyes at the thought.

“Oh, okay.” She says as if she was expecting me to say something else.

“What were you going to say?” I ask.

The blush comes back before she answers. “I was just to ask what you guys were going to do today?”

I give her a shrug. “I was thinking about taking them to the park. Let them play a bit.”

She gives me a nod before she turns to Allie and gives her a bright smile.

“Do you want to play at the park, Allie? I bet it’s going to be so much fun.”

Alessandra nods before going back to her food.

We finish up our food and once Angel’s pancake lands mostly on the floor than in his mouth, I grab the plates and start doing the dishes.

“It’s just going to be you guys and papi today, okay? I will see you guys tomorrow and I will put your hair in pigtails just how you like it.” Arianna tells the kids.

Turning slightly, I catch Arianna giving each child a kiss on the head and smoothing their hair back.

My heart constricts a bit at the sight.
