Page 88 of Powerful Deception
“I have a few new men and women auditioning in the next two weeks that look very promising, so come the new year we should grow in dancers and clientele.” Evelyn tells me, shutting her laptop.
Finally.
I give her a nod. “Send me the schedule for the auditions and I will join you.”
“Will do. There is one more thing.” She says, biting her lip.
“What?”
“We got a new high-profile client this week.”
“We get high profile clients all the time. What’s the big deal?” I throw back at her.
It’s not unknown that Perversa is a sought-after place, especially in a city that is filled with billionaires and professional athletes.
High profile clients are our norm.
“It’s Maddox Bauer.” Evelyn states.
“Fucking hell.” I groan.
Maddox Bauer was one of the best pitchers that major league baseball has ever seen and I say it was because this last season, everything went downhill for him.
Word has it, the money has gone to his head as he spent the majority of this season in clubs and saw more cocaine than the pitching mound. He was suspended sometime in July for substance use and there are talks of him being cut from the majors all together.
He’s one of Chicago’s own so seeing him go downhill so quickly has been hard on the baseball fans in the city.
I’ve met him, shit I know his mother, and I know that Maddox is capable of a lot, he just has to see that.
Having him become a client of Perversa can be a very bad thing, especially if he hasn’t gotten clean.
Or a good thing if I can keep him in check.
“Let him join but keep a close eye on him. If he does anything, anything at all, look at a bartender weird, have whoever is working call me. I’ll take care of him.”
Evelyn nods. “I will pass it along and let Maddox know he is welcomed at Perversa anytime.”
With that, Evelyn gathers her things and heads out.
After Evelyn leaves, I ignore the files that are on my desk and go find where Arianna and the kids ended up.
Since we started exploring our sexual attraction with each other, because that’s what it was and definitely not a relation, I’ve noticed Arianna looking at her roll her more than just a nanny.
Every day, I see how much she cares for the kids, how she doesn’t mind when I tell her I have to work late. I see that she enjoys eating meals with us and interacting with the kids outside of a professional capacity.
I also see just how much the kids love her.
To them, this woman is what most people would consider a mother figure and as I see more and more of it, I would agree.
Arianna looks at Alessandra and Angel as her own and not a job.
That pains me to even think, but it’s true.
I find the three of them in the living room watching some cartoon movie on the big screen. Angel is fast asleep on the couch and Alessandra is snuggled into Arianna’s side.
To an outsider, this would be just any ordinary family enjoying a night in.
There is nothing ordinary about this situation.
