Summer, what a pretty name. An odd thing to think of right now but think it I did. With her bright red hair, the name suited her. “Yeah, it’s fine,” I answered, figuring the sooner I let the doctor finish, the sooner I could see Gael and then sleep. I really needed to sleep.

I MOVED BACKreluctantly to let Summer help Brooke;for some reason, I felt I needed to be the one to help her with anything she needed. But I wasn’t technically her boyfriend, at least not yet. And it may make her uncomfortable to have me undress her.

“Does Tildie know Brooke is here?” Doc asked in a hushed tone, coming to stand beside me while Summer helped Brooke.

“Not yet; I’ll talk to her this evening when I check in on Reader. I didn’t want her to see Brooke like this,” I answered, keeping my voice low.

“Brooke will need her rest. It’s probably best Tildie wait until tomorrow to see Brooke.”

“I will tell Tildie that; hopefully, she understands. She is anxious to see Brooke again.”

“I know, and with Reader being hurt, it’s been hard on Tildie. But I’m sure she will understand Brooke needs to rest. Is the little one okay?”

“Yeah, Rowena will entertain him, and Sophia and Lord will watch him while Brooke recovers.”

“From what I can see, she is going to need a week at a minimum of bed rest,” Doc said, looking over his shoulder as Summer signaled she was ready. “Let me finish examining her and get an IV hooked up, and then she can speak to her son before I give her something to help her rest,” Doc finished going back to Brooke’s beside.

I moved closer to the bed and watched as Doc went over her body. I tried not to notice how fucking perfect Brooke’s body was, even with the bruising. Still, I couldn’t help it, nor the feeling of wanting to break Doc’s hands for touching her. Unreasonable, considering he was a doctor, but a feeling nonetheless.

Brooke brought out a possessive side of me I didn’t know existed.

She was mine.

She and Gael.

I listened as Doc asked her questions about her medical history. Aside from visiting a clinic regularly for birth control and std testing since her husband was a faithless dick, she had never seen a doctor since Gael was born.

Doc covered her back up with a blanket. “You will need a least a week of bed rest, and I will monitor you for the next twenty-four hours for your concussion. My guess is you will be sore for a few weeks until your body has healed. Do you have any questions for me,” Doc asked Brooke.

“I need to work and care for Gael; I can’t be down for a week. I’ll be fine. I’m used to working through the pain,” Brooke answered tiredly.

“The hell you will. You will stay in bed for a week as Doc instructed you to. I’ll make sure Gael is well cared for while you recover,” I insisted, moving to her side, taking her hand, and giving her my best don’t fuck with me look.

“I need the money, Lenny,” she argued.

“You don’t worry about anything but getting better. I need you to trust me that I will take care of you and Gael. Yeah?”

Brooke studied my face intently for a minute, her eyes boring into mine before relenting. “Yeah, okay. But can I see Gael now?”

“I’ll go get him,” I said, caressing her bruised face before turning and going to get Gael.

I found Gael still outside him and Rowena playing with Germie while Lord and Sophia looked on. I walked up to where they were sitting on the picnic table. “Doc says Brooke has a week of bed rest ahead of her. Are you okay with helping with Gael? I plan to bring him here to spend time with Brooke and Tildie, plus spend some time with the kid myself.”

“Whatever you need, we can do. I don’t mind keeping Gael; Rowena will be ecstatic to have a playmate,” Sophia answered.

“He’s gonna need clothes and shit, and so is Brooke. Can you take care of it for me? I can give you my card to get some stuff. And when Brooke feels better, she can get the rest of what they need.”

“Keep your card. We can square up if need be later,” Lord said.

“What are Brooke’s clothing sizes?” Sophia wanted to know.

“I’m not really sure. She is about your size, only not so big in the….uh, chest area,” I stumbled a little bit, not wanting to comment on the size of Sophia’s tits like I had been checking her out or something.

Lord and Sophia chuckled, “I think I understand, Stonewall; I will get her some comfortable clothing and bedroom slippers. Then, once she feels better, maybe she can order some things online. I will get Gael’s sizes from his clothes and make sure he has everything he needs,” Sophia said, standing to get Rowena and Gael.

Gael came running up to me. “Can I see mommy now?”

“Yeah, buddy, let’s go see your mommy,” I said, lifting him into my arms to carry him inside. I was surprised at how much I wanted to be a father figure to Gael. I never took myself as someone ever taking care of a child that wasn’t mine. But, I felt the same possession over Gael I felt for his mom. He was mine to care for and protect.
