“Come here,” he said, holding out his hand to me.
I moved to him, taking his hand, and letting him pull me forward until I was standing between his legs.
His hand lowered to his shaft to stroke it slowly as his eyes roamed over my body. “You’re so fucking beautiful and sexy and strong. You’re fucking perfect.”
I bent forward to touch my lips to his. “Right back at ya.”
Without waiting for his instruction, I moved his hand away and straddled him. Locking eyes with him, I lowered myself onto his cock. His hands rested on my waist again, squeezing tightly when I rocked my hips in a wave. I rode him, moving my body in a way I knew we both enjoyed. When we were close, he pumped his hips upward, hard and fast, until we cried out as our orgasms pulsed through us.
He was right, I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t even move. Once we’d recovered, he scooped me up to carry me back to the bed. I snuggled into him while letting my fingers dance over his chest.
“That was insanely good,” I said. “Why have you held that back?”
“It wasn’t time.”
“Oh,” I muttered. The conversation with Philip ran through my mind. Artemis wanted us to take our positions. This was Liam’s way of telling me we no longer had a choice. “When do we leave?”
He held me tighter. “When we’re ready.”
We fell silent again, lost in our own thoughts. I wasn’t sure how to feel about leaving my home, my friends, but I knew no matter what, as long as Liam was there, I’d be happy.
“After… or maybe it was during the pixie attack, I had a vision or a dream of you in the fifteen hundreds,” I said after a little while.
“Oh? Tell me about it.”
“There’s not much to tell,” I began then told him everything about the meadow and the creatures and meeting him. “It seemed so real I can’t understand how it was just a vision.”
“Pixie venom is powerful.”
I lifted my head to look at him. “That’s exactly what ‘past you’ said.”
“It’s the truth. The venom is hallucinogenic. It will make you see things you want or love and then take them away from you. It’s a way for them to torment their victims before they die.”
“Fucking wonderful.” I grunted remembering how sad I had felt when each of the creatures left me. “I think it makes you see what you are most afraid of.”
“What makes you say that?”
“When the ladybug, blue bird, and snake left me I felt overwhelmingly sad and lonely. I think the venom was making me suffer through what I most fear: being left by those I love.”
He pulled me close and crushed his lips to mine. “I’ll never leave you.”
“I know you won’t leave me… not on purpose.”
A tear fell down my cheek. Before I could wipe it away, Liam pressed a kiss to it. “Is that why you’re so scared of love and commitment? You think it’ll be fleeting? You think something will happen to make it end?”
“I guess so. Look at our lives. Since we got together, we’ve both almost died more than once. It’s bound to happen one of the times.”
“If you recall, this all startedbeforeour relationship. A good thing about being the Vinur and Vinura is, it’s a lot harder to kill us than the average shifter, and as you know, the average shifter is mighty hard to kill to begin with. As the Vinur and Vinura, our bodies can take an immense amount of damage and still heal itself.”
I stared up at him with a little bit of awe. “Really?”
He nodded and kissed the tip of my nose. “Really. What happened to you today would have killed another shifter. Look at you now, it’s like it never happened.”
“So, you’re saying it’s unlikely someone will kill us.”
“Sort of, yes. Decapitation is definite. There’s no coming back from that. At least not that I’m aware of.”
“Phil told me if we don’t give in to Artemis, she’ll kill me to make you suffer until you finally go.”
