He groaned and jostled me a little. “No. It wasn’t all her. There’s something special about you, Ember Steele, and I’m honored to have you as my mate.”
“Oh,” I breathed as tears blurred my vision. “Make love to me.” My emotions had overwhelmed me, and I didn’t want to talk anymore. I just wanted to feel. I wanted to feel him inside me, filling me.
He carried me to the bed and gently laid me back on the mattress. When he entered me again, he did it slowly. We gazed into each other’s eyes as his lips touched mine for a tender kiss. He moved his hips in a slow, seductive wave and the pressure built in my core. My legs wrapped around him, and my hands trailed lightly over his back as I moved my hips in time with his.
We fell over the edge together with slow, delicious waves of pleasure. Even after the pulses of our orgasms stopped, he held himself inside me. I trailed my hand up his back to run it through his hair, caress his face and neck, and finally, to rest over his heart.
“Liam Bertram Fraser, you are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. If I had known six years ago how much I’d crave you, need you, want you, I’d have jumped your bones in that Council meeting.”
He chuckled. “I would have welcomed it.”
“In the short time we’ve been together you’ve become the most important person in my life.” I lifted my face to his for a kiss. “I’d die for you.”
He kissed me again before shifting to lie beside me. “I would never allow it.”
When he pulled me against him, I let my fingers play with his chest hair. “I assume we’ll have to leave for Ulfurjord soon.”
“We can wait for Isaac to fully recover,” he said with a solemn smile. “Until then, let’s enjoy this time. We have no one to hunt, no one to kill. It’s just you, me, and our friends.”
“And a demon,” I added.
Liam sighed. “And a demon. He’s up to something, I just can’t figure it out.”
I shrugged. “He seems to really want to get back on everyone’s good side. He helped save Isaac and saved the Academy. Maybe he means what he says about making amends.”
He smiled down at me. “There you go again, always finding the good in someone.”
I grunted. “Yeah, I’m not sure that’s true.”
I’d grown up being attacked by almost everyone who crossed my path. That had made me impulsively suspicious of everyone I met. How Liam could think I saw the good in people was beyond me.
“You accepted apologies from the packs for their horrible treatment of you. You helped them learn how to protect themselves and their children. You forgave me for never helping you when you were younger. You overlooked Mr. Fleming’s invasion of your privacy. You made peace with Stella. And now you’re trying to find the good side of a demon.”
I laughed at his succinct evaluation of me. “Hmm, I still don’t know. I just don’t see the point in staying angry. I don’t want to turn into a bitter person, it eats away at you. That’s what happened to Celeste, and probably Cybil.” I ran my finger over his nipple, earning a little moan from him. “And I’m not sure I’ve fully forgiven your sins.” I grinned up at him. “I think you’ll have to prove how sorry you are for a little while longer.”
“Not a problem.” He shot me one of his sexy smirks before shifting me onto my back.
I squirmed as he trailed his fingers down my body until they were between my legs. A long moan escaped me when he slid them inside me. The pressure built quickly, as it always did when he worked those talented fingers of his. They continued their magic until they left me breathless and shaky.
Even as my body twitched with the aftershocks of the climax, he kept his fingers where they were. I pulled at his arm when the sensation on my most sensitive flesh became overwhelming, but he wasn’t stopping. He kept working me until I came again. After I’d fallen limply against the bed, he moved his hand to rest on my hip.
“Am I forgiven yet?” he asked while licking his lips. I moaned when he slid his fingers into his mouth. “Mmm… Was that a no? Because I can do this all night.”
“Yes,” I moaned. “Yes, you’re forgiven. Completely.”
“You just let me know if there’s ever a time when I need to make amends, and I’ll happily do it.”
“Oh, trust me, I’ll let you know,” I said, trying to stifle a yawn. “Do you want to come with me to Isaac’s?”
“In the morning. You need to sleep now.” He sat up to pull the covers over us then tucked me against his body. “He can wait until tomorrow.”
“Okay. In the morning,” I muttered as my eyes closed.
I was so excitedwhen we woke up, we didn’t even eat breakfast before we headed to Isaac’s. When we got back to Liam’s…ourhouse, I jogged up the stairs to Isaac’s room, and let out a happy squeal when I saw him sitting up in bed eating an omelet.
“Dammit, Em,” he said, choking on the eggs. “You startled me.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m just so happy you’re okay.” I ran to him, sliding to a stop at his bedside to wrap my arms around his neck and pepper kisses all over his face. He groaned and tried to push me away, but I held firm. “They said it could take weeks, but here you are!”
