“Can I suggest something?” I took a step away from Vincenzo so I could see them both a little better. “Can I just go lay by the pool and you guys hang out for a while today?”

Vincenzo scowled, narrowing his eyes. My father rested his hands on his hips.

“Mom has the friend she brought for Vinny, anyway. Let them hang out.”

“Eliza, I’m still pissed.”

“I’m an adult and I hate to sound disrespectful, but I’m fully capable of making my own decisions. I love him too and I want to be with him, but whether you hate him, or you’re disappointed in me or whatever, you’re always going to be my dad. And,” I sniffled, “you already know you like him, so you don’t have to worry about me bringing home a profess—” I glanced at Vincenzo who shook his head.

“I need time to process all this.” He lurched to the door and spun around. “I’m not going to tell you guys you can’t see each other anymore. Eliza, I’m fully aware you’re an adult and I know regardless of what I say, you’re going to sneak around. I am telling you both I need some space. Between what’s going on with Alicia, you suddenly deciding not to go to law school, and you guys falling in love or whatever this is, I just need to go for a walk and think. This is not the vacation I wanted.” He took a step outside, closing the door behind him.

Vincenzo exhaled. “Cazzo.” He ran his fingers through his hair, pivoting to me, then held his arms out.

I stepped into his embrace. He cupped my cheeks, pressing his lips to mine before he broke the kiss. “Lizzie, I didn’t want to tell you that way.”

I snickered. “I’m shocked we’re alive.”

“Had he been anyone but your dad, I’m not surehewould be. I know him well and I knew he held his physical anger in because of your presence.”

I sighed.

He kissed my forehead. “Princess, I love you so much.”

“I love you too.”

“That being said,” he sighed, “I have to go talk to him one on one.”

“I know.” I spoke barely above a whisper. “I was trying hard to make the situation as casual as possible but—”

He shook his head. “Yeah, your dad is cool until it comes to you and Lucas.”

“I just can’t believe he and my mom are divorcing.”

“Really?” He arched his brow.

“Okay, yeah.” I shrugged, wiping the leftover tears away. “I guess I saw it coming a mile away.”

He crashed his lips into mine, pulling me tight against him. His tongue probed my mouth, commanding dominance over mine. It’d been way too long since we were like this, and I just wanted all of him. Just as I reached for his shirt buttons, he took my hands in his, peeling away from the kiss. “I need to go speak to him before he gets too drunk to listen.”

“Okay,” I sighed.

“Go lay by the pool and I’ll text you to meet me back here after we’re done.”

I nodded. “Can you please move all your stuff in here?”

He smirked. “That really depends on how it goes with him when we talk privately. I know there’s more he wanted to tell me without you around. I could tell.”

“Fair enough.” I glanced back over my shoulder. “I actually came back in here because I forgot to take my sunscreen with me to the pool.”

“So, you can always remember that forgetting your sunscreen is the reason we got caught by your dad.”

“Oh, lovely.”

“You won’t forget it again, though, will you?”

“Gooo!” I playfully shoved him.

He pressed his lips to mine once more, then leaned close to my ear. “I’m going to fuck you so hard tonight.”
