I felt like I’d won a major prize as I listened to his laughter. I flopped onto my back among the flowers, him on his side next to me. “You’re very fortunate that you enjoyed the praqex cubes…I don’t think I could continue loving someone who didn’t.” He pulled a hilarious face at me.

My heart soared in my chest, but I tried my best to remain calm, to still the excited trembling. “Ash, did you just say you loved me?”

“Well, of course, but it comes with conditions.”

I couldn’t help myself and pushed towards him with such exhilaration that I drove him onto his back, me on top of his chest, staring down at that angelic face. “And what are these conditions? Because I have a few of my own.”

“Why would you have conditions? You haven’t declared your love.”

I laughed, feeling like I might burst from the precious feelings surging through me. Then I kissed him, showing him exactly how much he meant to me.

“I love you with all my heart,” I announced with a shaky breath because it suddenly felt as if I was floating, passion blooming inside me.

Ash kissed me back, his breaths rushed as he embraced me. “You own my soul, and you’ve owned it since the first time I met you in our first dream together. I knew that I loved you…even back then. I knew I’d lose my heart to you, and that one day we’d end up together forever. I love you so much, Blake.”

“Forever is a very long time.” I kissed the corners of his mouth, absolutely adoring this monster.

My heartbeat accelerated, and I considered pinching myself to check I wasn’t dreaming.

“Well, forever is one of my conditions so every day I can tell you how much I love you, kiss your sweet lips, and lick your pussy. Oh and then I can breed you obviously.”

I chuckled. “So, then one of my conditions is that you give me a foot massage every night.”

“Done.”

I embraced him, bringing him back over my body. The next thing I knew though, we were rolling down the hill, me laughing hysterically. If there was such a thing as a perfect day, I’d found it. There were still so many problems to fix, but I let myself have that moment with Ash, to enjoy the feeling of being loved by another one of my monsters.

I was the luckiest girl in the world.

By the time we were about to leave, I told Ash I wanted to collect a bunch of the flowers for my room.

I wandered around the hill, unable to stop smiling, and already planning to take Ash back to my room to really show him how much I loved him.

But just as I bent over to pick up a blue flower, a strangling sound came from behind me.

I jolted up and spun around, unsure what I was staring at for a moment.

One of the spider guards was shedding his skin, and he was on the ground squirming, making that horrid sound as it attempted to pull itself free from its old flesh.

I pulled a face at what I was witnessing, yet I couldn’t look away.

He used the beautiful flowers to drag his body across and finally wrenched himself out of his gross skin.

My heart thundered, a scream pressing on my throat at the monstrosity I witnessed as he finally stood up on hairy legs, so much bigger than the other guards.

I gasped as he shook himself. He glanced at me and tipped his head forward as if I hadn’t just observed the grossest thing ever.

Except, I’d been so wrong.

Just as he scuttled away in his new bigger body, another jelly-like monster, reminding me so much of Freddy, rushed over and then threw himself down at the spider husk left behind. He plunged his face into it, jelly hands greedily snatching at the remains.

I gagged, bile hitting the back of my throat.

It slobbered all over the husk, hungrily tearing into the skin, clawing at it, and shaking it in its mouth. He was eating it, swallowing it down in huge chunks.

I was going to be sick.

Just then, a big dollop of slobber flung directly at me. It hit me right across my chest, the wet sloppiness revolting.
