“I’m glad you’re here. I was hoping to give you an update on your partner’s condition.”
Juliana went into Harper’s room, leaving Dr. Fulton and me alone.
“How’s she doing?” I asked.
“All things considered, she’s doing well.” Dr. Fulton sighed, and I could see the exhaustion in her features. “She has a condition called eclampsia. Her blood pressure skyrocketed, and it resulted in a seizure.”
The room spun, and I tried to focus on her words. “But she’s okay now?”
“Hopefully,” Dr. Fulton said. “She’s still at a critical point, and we’re going to need to do everything we can to manage her blood pressure. We had to give her medicine during the C-section to prevent additional seizures. And we will continue to give her medicine and monitor her blood pressure closely.”
“How long has she had this?” I asked, thinking of the appointments I’d had to miss. Had Harper known?
“It came on suddenly, as is often the case.”
Suddenly,as a result of our argument over Giada. Cazzo.
This was all my fault.
“For now, we need to keep Harper calm. Help reduce her stress as much as possible.”
I nodded, remembering Juliana’s words. “Thank you, Dr. Fulton. I really appreciate you and all the staff taking such good care of them.”
“Of course.” She tucked her tablet beneath her arm, and I turned to leave.
Juliana was right. She’d been with Harper when she’d had the seizure. I’d upset her. And now I needed to put Harper first. I didn’t want to jeopardize her recovery by pushing for something that would distress her. Even if that something was me. For the moment, there was nothing I could do for Harper.
“Where are you going?” Dr. Fulton asked.
“To meet my son.”
