“I have something else I need to ask you,” I tell Naomi when we’ve found a moment to ourselves.
“Anything you ask me now I’ll probably say yes to,” she admits.
“That’s good. I want us to move in together. Now. We can sell both our houses and start fresh. I know you love your place and I love mine, but I want us to start this marriage out on the right foot and that means a new beginning.”
“You want us to move in together now?”
“We’re practically living together already,” I remind her.
“Of course I’ll move in with you. Duh. I’ve been thinking about it for a while. Actually, I called a realtor today because I figured I’d rather move into yours than stay in the drug house.”
“So you’re still calling it that?”
She grins and shrugs. “It’s a fun name.”
“Might not be the best selling point.”
She scrunches up her nose. “Probably not. So, do you have a house in mind? I assume so, since you brought it up.”
“I do. You really called a realtor?”
“Yup. I think I’ll just throw a For Sale sign on it and sell it myself, though. Market’s good and I’d make more money that way.” She pauses and gasps. “Maybe Paisley will want to buy it! How did I not think of that?”
We’re so in sync, I was planning to do the exact same, selling on my own.
“I bet she would. She loves your house.”
“Tell me about this house you’re looking at.”
“I’ll take you over there after we finish up here.”
“I have a question for you now.”
“What’s up?”
“How many bedrooms does the house you’re looking at have?”
“Four. Two and a half baths. Big sunroom that I thought would be good for an office, too. But there’s a full basement where we can build an office if you’d like.”
“Hmm. Will four bedrooms be enough?”
I’m quicker catching on to her meaning than she was playing the Scrabble game.
“Are you?”
She nods. “I am. I’m pregnant.”
“But… we weren’t even trying.”
“Apparently we were, we just didn’t know it.”
“We’re pregnant!” I shout, pulling her out of the booth again and hugging her so tightly I’m afraid I’ll suck the air out of her.
If I thought the cheers from before were deafening, they’re nothing compared to how loudly our family is cheering now.
Cody jumps between us, hugging us tightly. “I knew you’d have a baby cousin for me! Remember? I told you! I was right, wasn’t I? And so was Nana! She said Auntie Naomi had to go through the bad relationship to get to the good one and she got you. And with you, she got more of me.”
Naomi’s smile is watery as she looks down at Cody, who’s actually almost as tall as her now because he’s growing like a weed.
