“Yeah, I think we do.”

“I think Cody might have another cousin,” I mutter so only Naomi can hear.

“Holy shit. Ireallywasn’t expecting so much excitement tonight.”

“Guess it’s safe to say life will never be boring, huh?”

“I love you, soon-to-be Mrs. Naomi Lake,” I tell her in response.

“I love you, too, soon-to-be Mr. Lake. Wait, that’s not really different.”

I chuckle and kiss her. “You know what I’m feeling right now?”

“What are you feeling?”

“Actually, I have no words to describe how I’m feeling right now.”

“So you’re saying it’s indescribable?”

With a smile, I lean my forehead against hers. “That’s one way to put it.”

As always, all glory goes to God for giving me the ability, creativity, and desire to do this. It’s an amazing career to have and even when life is crazy and I’ve hit a writer’s block, I’m still in awe that this is what I get to do for a living.

My family is my rock. I cannot imagine a world without them or their constant support and encouragement. They’re for real the best. The other day we were leaving church and the kids were riding in one vehicle and Travis and I the other. I looked at Travis and said, “Isn’t having kids weird? They’reours. We brought them into this world and we’re given this huge task to raise them into good humans.” He replied, “You know what’s awesome, though? They’re becoming more than just our kids. They’re our friends, too. We still guide them and raise them but we have inside jokes and actually enjoy being around them.”

Teenagers are a crazy different breed of humans. Their emotions are all over the place and their needs are so different than when they were little kids. Our job is far from done, and it is the hardest job either of us have ever had and one we don’t take lightly, but he’s right. It’s so much fun to see the next stage of life with them.

Thank you, Kate, for the gorgeous cover and teasers but mostly for being my friend. You make me smile constantly and I appreciate you more than you could possibly know.

Jill, you’re still my sounding board and one of the best things that came to me from joining the book community almost a decade ago. Your strength is incredible.
