I scoffed. “No, I wasn’t.”
I had just been thinking about his sister. When she’d left last weekend, I felt like she had taken something from me with her. It was such a ridiculous thought, but I’d been unsettled ever since.
Not to mention, I hadn’t had sex for almost a whole week. Six days, to be exact, and that wasn’t like me.
But the only one I wanted was Rayne.
“Sure seemed like it,” Beau said.
“Just have a lot on my mind,” I muttered.
“Like the—”
“Cade? Cade Thompson? Is that you?”
Over Beau’s shoulder, I saw one of the women I used to regularly sleep with saunter toward us.
When my best friend saw her, he raised his eyebrows in my direction, as if to say,Who is this?
I cleared my throat. “Hey, Leila. This is my friend Beau.”
Leila held out a well-manicured hand. “Nice to meet you, Beau. You are almost as handsome as your friend.”
I couldn’t be sure with the lighting, but I thought he was blushing.
Leila was very straightforward and didn’t waste time with semantics. She went for exactly what she wanted, which was why I had her number. She liked sex as much as me but wanted nothing more. She was the owner and CEO of her own company, and she’d told me she didn’t have time for relationships, nor did she want to make time. Her company was her first and only love.
“He’s married, Leila.”
She smacked her lips in disappointment. “Damn. I could always use another man who knows what he’s doing in the bedroom for my roster.”
Beau looked stunned but laughed.
“Leila and I occasionally get together to…you know,” I finished since we were in the middle of a restaurant.
“Used to get together.” She put a hand on her hip. “I haven’t heard from you since you canceled on me, like, four weeks ago.”
“Yeah, something came up,” was all the explanation I was going to give her because I didn’t owe her any, but my best friend opened his big mouth.
With a grin, he told Leila, “That’s because I made a bet with him that he could only have sex with one woman for a month.”
Leila clapped her hands together as she burst out laughing. “That is hilarious.” She looked me up and down. “And how is that going for you?” She lifted a brow. “You haven’t called me, so it must be going well?”
“Very well. He’s done,” Beau answered. “Monday was one month, so tonight, we’re celebrating.”
She pointed at him. “You bet him he couldn’t last a month, and he won the bet, but you’re both celebrating?”
“I told Cade if he could make it, we’d open a restaurant together.”
“Congratulations. You’ll have to hit me up once it opens. I have a lot of customers I can send your way.”
“Thanks, Leila,” I said.
She put a finger to my chest. “Now that you’re free again, you’ll have to call me.”
Not that long ago, I wouldn’t have hesitated to say yes, but now, her flirting did nothing to me. Not even a stir from down below.
One month with Rayne, and it occurred to me that I might be broken.
