“Amber, how do we get her out?” the purple-haired chick asked.

“Don’t go messing with a member’s woman,” Amber said in a warning tone. “You don’t want to be a Carla or Misty, do you?”

“What happened to them?” the new girl asked.

“Misty is dead, and Carla was run out of the state.” Amber tugged her tube top up and fluffed her hair. “Mess with a Knight’s woman, and they’ll make you disappear one way or another.”

That was reassuring to hear but also frightening. Was Joseph capable of murder? I put my hand on my stomach, feeling sick.

“I say we turn prissy Brynne over to the bad guys so we can get Ray back. If it were me, I’d sacrifice myself for my brother.” Purple-haired bitch made an excellent point.

I turned on my heel and gasped when I nearly crashed intoanotherkitten. “Oh, excuse me.”

“Eavesdropping?” the blonde asked.

“Isn’t that what the women around here do?”

She gently pulled my arm to move me away from the bar. “Sometimes we snoop where we don’t belong.” A smile spread across her pretty face. “We haven’t been formally introduced, but I’m Libby, one of the kittens.”

So she was a kitten. Great. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Brynne.”

“I know who you are. You’re the spitting image of Tina.” Her green eyes studied my face. “So pretty.”

“Thank you.”

“I heard what those bitches were saying about you. I swear, I’ve tried to teach them to be better, but some people were only made to fuck.”

I felt my eyes bulge. “Okay.”

“Sorry, I get frustrated with their catty attitudes. They’ll never be fully accepted by the old ladies.”

“Are you accepted?”

“Yes.” She smiled broadly. “Because I care about them and respect them. And they feel the same way about me.”

“Good to know.”

“Can I offer you a bit of advice?”

“Sure.”

“Go in there and slap, Becca.”

“What?” I said, wholly taken aback.

“Don’t let them disrespect you. They’ll try to steal your man if you don’t stand your ground.”

“If my man can be stolen from me, he wasn’t really mine.”

“That’s a lovely attitude to have, and true. But in an MC, there’s a pecking order. New women are at the bottom. The old ladies are naturally at the top. The rest of us are somewhere in the middle. Where do you want to be?”

“Honestly? Not here at all.”

She smiled as if she understood, but… “Becca and Dawn need a firm hand. I’ll go with you for moral support.”

Shit, she seriously wanted me to slap those girls. I dialed into their laughter and heard one of them mention Track. “Okay, maybe I can do this.” Although I wasn’t naturally violent, I felt capable of anything right now.

“I’ll be with you.” She waved me to go inside first.
