“Can’t control myself much longer,” he rasped as he pushed her against the wall, trapping her between his outstretched arms that were pressed against the wall on either side of her.
He struggled to control his breathing as he looked down at her bewildered expression.Beautiful little fey.“Why did it take me so long to see? What a fool I am.” He whispered to himself.
“Wha… what are you doing?” She looked up to him questioningly with curious eyes. Behind that curious look he witnessed a need in her eyes that proved their close proximity was affecting her as much as it was him. She still wanted him. He didn’t ruin his chances yet.
“I need you Sophia.”
Because you’re mymate,he thought, but wouldn’t dare say it out loud. It was still too soon.
The need in her eyes dissipated. “Oh, I get it. You plan on easing your needs with me again only to get upset for betraying your mate after the fact. No, I won’t be on the receiving end of that. Not today.” She swatted at one of his arms, her anger flaring. “Go ease your needs with someone else and leave me alone.” Even as she said this, she made no move to escape from the cage he had created with his arms.
He couldn’t blame her for her hesitation. He deeply regretted how he acted after their last kiss and the terrible way he made her feel. He was foolish to have felt any guilt for being with Sophia. He knew without a doubt that he’d never feel any guilt again. Sophia only needed to see that.“Fuck. That. Girl.”
Sophia’s eyes widened, a flicker of an emotion he couldn’t quite discern flashing across them before her anger returned. “Why should I believe you?” Despite her attitude he could hear the pleading in her voice. She wanted a reason to believe him.
“Don’t you want to believe me?” He needed to hear that she craved him just as he craved her.
“What does it matter what I want?” Desire flashed across her eyes.
“Everything.”
Unable to control the primal urges inside him any longer, he cupped her chin, forcing her to look up at him. “I won’t act as I did before. Just give me a chance to prove it to you.” He bent down for a kiss before she had a chance to answer, his lips meeting hers.
She broke the kiss, but her breathing was heavy, her eyes heavy lidded. “Prove it… with a kiss?”
“I’ll do everything in my power to prove it to you. But right now I might die if I don’t kiss you.”
Something in his words must’ve struck her, because her face softened, her lips parting invitingly. He eagerly answered that invitation, bringing his head down so he could suck on her savory lips. She welcomed it, her back arching until her breasts pressed against him. “Gods,Fia.” Driving me mad.
He wasn’t sure if he could control his instinct much longer, his need for her too strong.
But when he heard Maya say, “Well, this certainly isn’t a surprise,” he bit out a curse.
Sophia quickly broke their kiss, her head snapping toward the doorway where Maya’s voice had come from.
It took everything in Antonio’s power to remain calm as he glared in the sorceress’ direction. “What do you want?” He didn’t need to make enemies with their teammate. At least, not yet. Once the team battles were over she was fair game.
She shrugged, a smug grin plastered across her face. “Only to relish in the fact that I knew it.” Then she walked away, leaving them alone once again.
Chapter Thirty-One
Antonio Payne
When Antonio felt Sophia’s hands press against his chest, as if to push him away, he was filled with disappointment. Though disappointed the moment was lost, he accepted the dramatic change in her mood and took a step back. He was glad to have at least gotten a taste of her. For now. He planned on getting much more later.
“I don’t understand you!” She screamed, pulling at her hair.
“Refusing my kiss because you don’t understand me, even though youclearlycrave it? You sure are one stubborn girl.” And yet he loved how hardheaded she was.
“Me - stubborn? Because I refuse to allow my emotions to be toyed with?” Her face turned a shade of red as anger took over her features. “I won’t allow it. Not again.Fool me once…I’m backing out of whateverthis,” she waved her hands between them, “is!”
The hell she was. “You’re not backing out of anything.”
“Like you have any say in the matter.”
When she directed her attention toward the doorway his beast growled. “Don’t even think about walking away.”
“I’ll do a lot more than justthinkabout it.” She made a move to storm out of the room but he was quick to place himself between her and the door. “Please,Antonio.”
