Nate growls, stilling as his dick pulses inside of me.

“My heaven. That’s what you are.” He drops his body on half of mine, kissing me fervently and desperately.

I’ve never felt as content as I do in this moment. His arms wrap around me, making me feel safe as his lips kiss my shoulder, cheek, and lips.

The peace that fills me is otherworldly. It’s inexplicable.

I look at him and smile. “Stay the night?”

“I’m not going anywhere.”

I bite my lip as a smile takes over and lean in to kiss him. My heart is still racing, and I reach out to see if his heartbeat matches mine. My palm flattens on his chest, and Nate’s expression softens.

“It’s all yours.”

His words make my breath catch. We stare at each other for a few moments before I grab his hand and place it over my heart.

“And this is yours.”

Chapter 25

Lizzy

“Rumorhasityou’redating Deputy Moore,” my mom says, sitting across from me at the dining table in her kitchen. I came over for breakfast today.

I sigh, surprised she hasn’t been blowing up my phone about this. I have no doubt that the people who saw us together at the doctor’s office started talking about it.

“We’ve gone out.”

“Are you sure that’s a good idea? I know I told you that you needed a man like him, but after what happened to your father…” Her words trail off.

“Mom, what happened to Dad was sick and cruel. I hate thinking about it, but we can’t live our lives stuck on that experience, making decisions based on it.” I reach out and squeeze her hand.

“I just don’t want you to live through something like that, and this line of work is uncertain.”

“I get that, but just because it happened to Dad, doesn’t mean I’ll live through it with Nate.”

“You’re right.” She smiles. “Nate is quite the looker, too.” She winks and takes a drink of her coffee.

“Mom.” I groan but can’t help but laugh.

“Tell me about this man.”

I jump into the conversation, telling her about Nate, the dates we had, and my sting. Her eyes widen when I mention the jellyfish, but she smiles when I show her it’s healing.

“You look happy.” My mom interrupts me as I’m telling her about the work Nate is doing at the school.

“I am.” I lean back in my seat with a smile.

“Then, I’m happy.”

“Hello, ladies.” Gary enters the kitchen with a grin and kisses my mom’s cheek.

“Hi, darling. How was breakfast?”

“It was good. Steve says hello. He wants to get together soon. With you, too, Lizzy. He’s going to propose to Ana.”

“Wow,” I say. “That’s exciting. I know siblings are usually involved in each other’s weddings, but is there a code for step siblings?” I jokingly ask.
