Rebel choked down the sudden emotions that flooded him. As much as he felt like the club was his family, sometimes he forgot how all-in they were when one of them had an issue. Ruby may not have accepted them ashers, but they had accepted her as part of them.

“I appreciate it.”

“Just another chance to remind outsiders what happens when you fuck with our family.” The evil grin that appeared on Axle’s face both warmed Rebel’s heart and terrified him in equal measure.

Chapter fifteen

The next morning… Diamond

Diamondandhercousin,Ann Marie Akton, sat on Ann’s porch and enjoyed the view. Diamond’s apartment was upstairs from Ann’s, so it gave them the perfect view to watch as Rock and his friends carried furniture and other heavy stuff across the yard to the box truck, while the kids carried lighter things. With the men shirtless, the view was mesmerizing.

“Lord have mercy,” her cousin breathed from Diamond’s right. “You’re moving to a place where you will see these men on a regular basis?”

Diamond chuckled at her cousin’s question. “Well, Rock I’ll probably seenakedevery day, but I doubt I’ll see Ranger and Brute half-naked often.”

“Even clothed, they are a sight to behold. If this is the scenery, I might have to visit soon.”

As Ann spoke the words louder than was necessary, Ranger was heading back toward the house. He glanced over and shot Ann a wink as a grin grew on his face. “I’ve got a place for you to stay, Sweetheart.”

Diamond rolled her eyes and laughed.

“Watch yourself,” Ann warned. “I just might take you up on that.”

He bit his bottom lip and let his gaze rake over Ann. “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”

“Keep it in your pants,” Rock gritted out as he passed Ranger. “Little eyes and ears.” Then, he nodded toward the kids still standing at the back of the truck with Brute. “Just give her your number already and get back to work. We have church at three. You can flirt later.”

“Yes, sir,” Ranger commented and gave Rock a mock salute. When Rock reentered the house, Ranger came over and handed Ann his phone. “Text yourself.”

With a cheeky smile on her face, Ann took his phone from his hand and did as he asked. When she handed him his phone back, she uttered, “Now, don’t be expecting any strings. I don’t do entanglements.”

“Oh fuck,” Diamond cursed under breath. “You basically just saidI dare you.”

Ann shot her a look. “What?”

“That’s what your words translate to in biker speak.”

A feeling of contentment and love filled Diamond’s gut as Ranger ruffled her hair in a brotherly way and commented, “That’s what I heard.”

Bri

The meeting with the director the day before was nothing special. Debbie just wanted to know exactly what was said and what was done. She said she had spoken with Sharon White, but Sharon wasn’t forthcoming with the story, only wanting to complain about Bri’s love-life. Debbie informed Bri she had told Sharon that Bri’s love-life had nothing to do with her employment or the library, and it wouldn’t be discussed further, which Bri was grateful for. However, they were both bracing for measures to either pull funding or a drop in donations.

Bri felt like it was the perfect time to take a few days vacation, considering she had some thinking to do, on top of the issue with the library scene. Debbie agreed. They also decided to put a hold on the teen group until everything blew over, but Bri suspected the teens, especially Derrick, weren’t going to be happy about that. What teenager didn’t want to go to a reading group led by a biker? The boys wanted to be him, and the girls and a few of the boys wanted to stare at him.

When Bri finished her workout, doing a routine on her pole in her second bedroom, she took a quick shower to wash off the sweat. After washing up, she wrapped herself in a towel and headed into her bedroom to find her phone. She found it was on her nightstand and checked it, smiling when she saw a text from Rebel and a few from Allie and Liz. Deciding to check her friends’ messages later, she opened the message thread with Rebel and read.

>I’m having a couple of the guys over for a bonfire tonight. Would like it if you were here. Think Pixie and Sugar will come with them.<

With a smile, Bri typed out a reply.

>Wouldn’t miss it. Should I bring something?<

His reply was quick.

>Besides your sexy ass and sweet smile? No.<

She rolled her eyes, but she loved his words. Rebel had a way of making her feel beautiful and desired with just a few words or a look.
