“He would have died from those stab wounds.”

“But he didn’t. He died from me snapping his neck.”

She looked into his eyes, those gold-fleck blue orbs full of concern for him. “How do you not get lost in the fact that you took a life?”

Rebel didn’t look away from her eyes when he answered, “I feel guilt for my uncle, because there was a time in my life when I loved him, but more because of the twins. I don’t like that I took Charles’s life, but I don’t let myself focus on it. My uncle would have tried to kill me and would have made the lives of his sons hell again. Charles was trying to take your life. That is reason enough for me to justify both actions. I did it to protect my loved ones. If I’m on this earth to do anything, it’s that. You stabbed Charles to protect yourself. He put himself in that position by entering your home.”

“It’s that simple?” She reached up and ran her fingers through his beard.

He shrugged, closed his eyes, and savored the feel of her fingers through his beard. “Yeah.”

“What if I need more time to get to that point?”

Opening his eyes, he met her gaze and replied, “Then, I will be here to help you. We’re going through this together, just like everything else for the rest of our lives, Sweetie.”

She pressed her forehead to his and sighed. “My sexy, sweet biker.”

“And if my sweet side doesn’t do the trick, I can always just fuck you until you can’t think.”

She giggled and wiggled her hips. “You mean to tell me that’s not a cucumber in your pocket?”

He gripped her hips and pulled her down harder. “Your fault,” he told her and nipped her bottom lip.

Niles

Niles didn’t see the point in going to carnival. Since Mary was just coming back to the house to get her bags, he parked the stolen car down the block and waited. When he saw her Jeep turn onto the street a little after two, he slid down in the seat, so she didn’t see him.

He watched while she went into the house and came out a few minutes later with a suitcase, a duffel, and her purse. She put them in the back of her Jeep and got back in.

He looked around to see if she had a bodyguard tailing her. Surprisingly, she didn’t. Niles wondered if she even told the fucker she was going, but it didn’t matter.

When she backed out of the driveway, he started the car. He waited until she reached the stop sign at the end of the block before he put the car in drive and pulled away from the curb.

They drove through town and turned onto the highway road that took them out into the country. Approximately a half hour later, she turned the Jeep onto a dirt path barely wide enough for the Jeep.

Pulling off to the side of the road, Niles waited a few minutes before he also turned onto the dirt path. The automatic headlights on the car turned on as soon as he entered the thick woods that surrounded them. He was about a quarter mile from the highway road when he saw the Jeep stopped on the path, with nothing around them but trees. You could barely even see the sky through the canopy.

He stopped the car and tried to figure out what was going on. Did the Jeep get stuck? Was Mary lost? He started to get excited that she might have just made this easy for him, but that hope was dashed when the fucker and two other men stepped out from the woods and stopped between his car and the Jeep.

Realizing he had been set up, he put the car in reverse and turned to look over the seat to back down the path to the highway. That’s when he saw the large truck parked at an angle on the road, blocking any chance of escape.

Fuck!

Rock

Standing in the middle of the path, staring at the outline of Diamond’s piece of shit ex through the windshield of the car Rock was sure was stolen, he let a smile grow on his face. The fucker had no idea what he was about to go through.

Lifting his left hand, he made sure the fucker saw the tattoo on his ring finger, before he crooked a finger, and motioned for the idiot to get out of the car.

It took another couple of minutes, but the man finally realized there was no way to avoid what was about to happen. Niles opened the door and slowly got out of the car, leaving it running. Not taking his eyes off of Rock he rounded the car to the hood and stopped there.

“What?” The man tried to sound tough, but he really sounded panicked. Rock could understand that. Heshouldfeel panicked.

“You put your hands on my kids, then on my woman. I don’t like that.” Diamond had gotten out of the Jeep and fitted herself to Rock’s side. Rock slid his arm around her shoulders and held her close.

“They aren’t your kids. They’remine!She’smine!”

Rock tsked and shook his head. “That’s where you’re wrong. You see… theywereyours, but you put your hands on them. Then they ceased being yours. You relinquished any hold you had on them with your actions. Then, I met them. And we realized she was meant to be with me all along… so were Miles and Jenna. They aremy kids, and she ismy woman. You will never be near them again.”
