She started to laugh. “Soap and deodorant.”
“It’s different than what you smelled like earlier.”
Which told her he was paying attention to her.
“Because I cleaned up in the bathroom. Being in a gym all the time, I’m sure you know how bad sweat can be. I didn’t want to be one of those people.”
“You weren’t,” he said. “I was close by you thirty minutes ago.”
When she walked back to her table to finish that glass of wine. “And no reason to get that way. So I’m clean and fresh now and told myself I was going to slow down for a few dances on the floor too.”
“If you’re having fun, you should continue with it. Do what you want and not what you think other people would do or want you to do.”
“That sounds like the voice of experience there,” she said.
“Yes and no. Not a conversation to have here.”
“I’d like to have it at some point,” she said. Might as well put it out there since she’d been bold with him already.
“Maybe,” he said.
She frowned and he laughed at her. “Are you joking with me?”
“Maybe,” he said again.
The song ended and another fast one came on. He got off the floor fast and she moved to the table to get her drink, but someone else pulled him aside to talk to him and she never got to find out what he’d meant by that.
It was almost an hour later and she was walking around with her fourth wine in her hand. She was feeling good now and had gotten stopped by Garrett Fierce. “Megan, how are you enjoying yourself?”
“I’m having a great time, Garrett. How about you?”
“Weddings are always a call for celebrating,” Garrett said.
“They are,” she said. “It’s great to see couples so happy.”
“I’m sure your day will come too,” Garrett said.
“Who knows?” she said, looking around the room and her eyes landing on Jonah who was talking with someone from his family. He lifted his head and looked at her, smiled like he was still teasing her and went back to his conversation.
“Sometimes it’s right in front of your face,” Garrett said.
“Yeah. But when it’s a bull that doesn’t see the red flag, there isn’t much you can do.”
“Sure, there is,” Garrett said, laughing. “You change direction and try again.”
“If you say so,” she said, smiling and then moving off.

“Did you get anywhere?”Carolyn asked.
Garrett came back to his table where he’d been sitting with his brother and sister-in-law, and his children, Sam, Dani, Bryce and Payton. He was hoping his kids weren’t at the table, but they were all sitting and talking as the music sped up again and no one at this table wanted to get out there and bust a move.
“What are you guys up to?” Sam asked.
“You know the answer to that,” Dani said. “They are trying to set someone up. Who is it?”
“It’s obviously Jonah and Megan,” Payton said.
