“That’s right,” he said. “Just worry about you. Or us.”

He started to rub her shoulders for her. “That feels good.”

He stood up and held his hand out. “Come on.”

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“My room. I’m going to give you a massage. You need it.”

“Damn, I was hoping it would be more than that. I think I need that more than anything.”

“I might be persuaded to do a happy ending.”

“Now you’re talking my language,” she said.

They got to his room and he said, “Take your shirt off.”

“I can do that. This is a nice big bed. Lots of room to move around.”

“Do you want a tour of my place first?” he asked. Once he saw the sadness on her face he’d forgotten it was the first time she’d been here.

“You can give me one later. One apartment is just like another.”

“That’s how I feel,” he said. “It’s not like it’s a house. I’m not here much to do anything special to the place.”

“Which is sad, but I understand.”

“I’m here now,” he said.

Her shirt was off and she dropped her shorts too. Even better for him. Then she flopped facedown on the bed and he held back the laugh. He didn’t expect her to look this vulnerable. He supposed if Raina hadn’t pointed it out to him yesterday that Megan put on a good front, he might have brushed this all off as her trying to be funny.

He realized that this was more like her raw emotions.

He straddled her hips and started to rub her shoulders. “I’m in heaven. So much heaven.”

She was almost purring as he did it. “I don’t have much technique. It’s more about loosening your muscles.”

“I’m starting to feel loose,” she said.

She was arching up into his hands as he spread them down her back and over her spine. Her face was turned, but he could see her eyes were closed.

“Do you want to talk about it?”

“About what?” she asked.

“Your day?” he said.

“Not much to say. It’s my family. I’m not good enough or not moving fast enough. One of these days they will understand me, or maybe they won’t. But my sisters and nieces sure thought you were hot in your tux.”

“You told your family about us?”

“No,” she said. “Don’t take offense to this. It was Abby’s party. I could tell right away my mother and father wouldn’t be too keen on it. I’ll tell them another day.”

“Keen on what?” he asked. “On me?”

She giggled. “My mother said I look like a child next to you.”

“You are on the small side.”
