Rational thinking when you find your mate isn’t normally on the table, let alone after being stuck in wolf form for six weeks. I’ll make it up to you. Anything you want when we get home, it’s yours. Shelby let out a moan as Landon’s entire body pressed against hers, his lips pressing softly against her face. His hands were driving her insane as they slid up and down her sides, making her want more, need more, but his words stopped her cold.

They reminded her exactly who he was. Not only that he was the alpha regent’s son but also incredibly wealthy. The only ones wealthier than the shifter’s alpha regent was the one they called the werewolf king. He was actually a Lycan, different from wolf shifter, but drawn to the moon nearly as much.

“Wait,” she gasped out as his teeth nipped at her neck. Her hands slid from around his neck to his chest, pressing on him. She couldn’t believe she’d smacked him, let alone that he hadn’t retaliated. The only thing that would stop a shifter from doing so would be if he really was her mate. She couldn’t imagine that he wasn’t supposed to be hers, not with the things rushing through her now. It was nearly impossible to resist pushing herself into his body further, from doing what he told her to do.

She’d never felt the alpha dominance he’d talked about, she wasn’t mated, wasn’t bonded to it through that. She was purely human, but she swore she felt his commands through his words. It was intense, almost painful to not do what he told her to do. It should make her run as far in the opposite direction as she possibly could, not want to get closer to him. Instead, her body sang hotly when he told her to get her ass in the shower and wash herself off or he’d do it.

“Finish washing yourself, little mate,” he said, his jaw tight before he moved out of the space, confusing her entirely.

Her words did what she expected, made him stop, think before he did something stupid like claiming her, but he still called her his mate. She forced out a deep breath soaping herself quickly, glad to get rid of the heavy musk of male that’d clung to her. She moved out of the space, looking for a towel and stopped short in the doorway, hearing Landon talking to someone else.

“See if they have my mate’s bag, Alan. Thatcher, call Katya, tell her I’m fine. I don’t need her worrying more than she likely is over me, especially not while she’s pregnant. Then call my mother and tell her as well.”

“Should I tell Katya or your mother about your mate?” another voice asked, and Shelby bit the inside of her lips, not wanting to reveal herself to them.

“No, I’ll tell them,” Landon said before the sound of a door closing pushed her back into the bathroom. Her body radiated with fury. Every muscle of her being wanted to protest what she’d just heard. Her mate…hermate had another woman out there that was worried about him,pregnantby him?

Pain raced through her and if she were a wolf, she knew this would bring a shift, but all she could do was sink back into the water and cry.

“What’s wrong, little mate?” Landon said, stepping into the doorway and she turned her face into the water, not wanting him to see her tears. “I said, what’s wrong?” he repeated, the water shutting off before something wrapped around her body, pulling her eyes open to the thankfully clean smelling towel. “Mate…I know I was a stupid ass, doing this completely wrong, baby. I never even asked your name, but I promise, I will make everything right.”

“It doesn’t matter,” she gritted out before mashing her teeth together to keep from letting her hurt tone out any further.

“Of course, it matters, my mate. No one wants their mate to be all beast when they’re claimed, and that’s what I’d be right now if I don’t get us out of here. I know you feel the pull as well, you simply don’t feel the depth of the mate pull, but once I’ve claimed you, you will. You’ll see just how desperate we are for you and understand why I stopped.”

“I’m not going to be your mate,” she snipped taking a step back, out of his reach to get herself together.

“The hell you aren’t!” he shouted in return, his hands pulling her back to him, making her inside melt, wanting more, wanting all of it so much pain surrounded her entirely.

“I already told you I’m human. What else matters? No one will accept an alpha having a human mate,” she said trying to get out of his hold.
