“Come on, girl, let’s get drinking and carpe diem the hell out of tonight.” She gives her shoulders a little shimmy, and we clink our glasses.

We drink, and not a minute later, we finish our cocktails. Then we make a start on the wine, which is sweet and delicious.

I haven’t reached my limit yet, but as the wine is strong, it’s giving me the same potent fix I’d get from drinking three or four cocktails.

Suddenly, mischief dances in Harper’s eyes and she leans closer.

“Oh my God,” she hisses. “There’s a seriously hot guy checking you out from the balcony.”

“What? Really?”

“Yes. He was looking down here when we came over. At first, I thought he was looking at me, but he’sdefinitelycheckingyouout in an I-want-to-taste-you kind of way.”

“No way.” She must be exaggerating. Guys don’t look at me like that.

“Oh, waaay.” She seductively swivels her head to the left.

Curiosity makes me follow her gaze. Given the fact that I haven’t dated for over a year and my last boyfriend turned out to be a cheating asshole, guys are way, way, way down my list. But damn me, when my gaze lands on the Greek god of a man standing on the second-floor balcony, I forget.Everything.

He has the kind of face with a rugged handsomeness that will do that to you.

He’s tall—at least six foot six, so he towers over most of the people around him. Even though he’s wearing a black button-down shirt, I can see from the definition in his arms and shoulders that he has the kind of muscles that seem chiseled from pure granite.

His dark blond hair is cut into a neat faux hawk, and decadent tattoos crawl up his neck, tapering off at his chiseled angular chin.

We’re about twenty feet away from each other, but yes, he is definitely watching me. The longer he stares, the more my body heats from the hot, sexual wave cascading over me from head to toe.

A sexy grin tips the corners of his full lips that instantly makes me think of seriously hot, sinful things.

I realize I’m staring, too, openly ogling this guy, but there’s something about him that forbids me to look away from his face and that hard muscular body.

The gorgeous godlike man has an untamed beauty I’ve never seen before. It’s raw and masculine, sexy and wild.Dangerous.

Dangerous?

Maybe it’s all those tattoos. Regardless, this man has my poor mind running wild and wondering what he looks like beneath that shirt.

“Good Lord, Serenity,” Harper hisses, giving her best rendition of Blanche Dubois fromA Streetcar Named Desire. “You two are about to set the building on fire.”

My cheeks heat, and I look back at her. “Oh my gosh. I didn’t mean to stare for so long.”

“Don’t be silly. This was the whole purpose of tonight. Fun, remember?”

“Yeah, fun.” Saying that word this time fills my mind with the idea that fun with a guy, even just flirting from afar, could be the welcomed break my tired soul craves.

Harper’s face brightens with more mischief, and I know to prepare myself for one of her crazy moves.

“I say we give him something more to look at.” She wiggles her brows.

“Like what?”

“This.”

Before I can get another word out, she gets up and grabs my hand. I squeal but allow her to lead me down the steps to the dance floor.

We get there just in time for the music to change to a popular mix, as if it was done just for us.

When the DJ uses an effect that makes the music sound like it’s racing around the room with the strobe lights, the crowd goes wild.
