“And because specifics are classified, it’s good to keep her alert but leave out the details,” Spencer said.

“I’m on it.”

“Your email address is being monitored now. The unit will know instantly if you’ve received a second video.”

Langston nodded. “Okay.”

“I’ll be in touch.” Spencer reached out for a handshake, and Langston accepted it. He walked away, but Tristan lingered.

“Are you okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“What transpired last night was heavy. I’m sorry that happened to you.”

Langston sucked his teeth. “As much as I would’ve avoided it, I’m glad it happened. I was able to release what I’d been holding on to, and in turn, it gave me the revelations I needed. I’m good.”

Tristan nodded and placed a hand on Langston’s shoulder, squeezing. “That’s all I care about.”

Langston patted his hand and smirked. “I’m sure the press will have a field day.”

“Avoid the news.”

Langston grimaced. “Damn.”

“There is good news, however.”

“Yeah? What’s that?”

“Lisa didn’t make it into the news.”

Confusion settled across Langston’s face, and Tristan chuckled. “You don’t know, do you?”

“Know what?”

“She slapped the shit out of Destiny.”

Langston’s gaze widened, and Tristan nodded. “Destiny was trying to catch up to you, but you didn’t know it because Lisa stopped her. The two had a few words, then Destiny was on the ground. Your girl is about that life, I think.”

Langston’s confusion turned into a smile of appreciation, and he remembered how she’d cracked a beer bottle on the side of the biker’s head at the bar. “Yeah. She is.”

“Good for you. Bad for anyone trying to get in your way.”

The two men chuckled together, keeping their voices low.

“Anyway, I’m a phone call away.” He started to walk off when he turned back. “Don’t take too long to call Mom; she’s worried about you.”

Langston bristled. The nature of the entire event came crashing back to him. Everyone was in attendance. His whole family, plus friends and everyone in between.

“I’ll call her now.”

Tristan nodded, and they parted ways.
