My body is so charged with energy, so tender to the touch, I jerk.
He smooths a knuckle across my cheek. “You okay?”
Is he kidding? “I love this couch.”
He barks a surprised laugh, helps me up, then turns me to face him before kissing me long and hard.
Releasing me, he puts his hands on my shoulders, turns me toward what I assume is the bedroom, then smacks me on the ass. “Get going. I’m going to teach you what getting up at a decent hour means.”
My ass tingling, I look back at him. “A little bossy now.”
“Get into my bed, Justice.”
I shrug. “Turns out, right now, I like bossy.”

SANDESH
With the curtains drawn and the bedroom dimly lit, I find myself as satisfied as I’ve ever been. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect morning. It’s not every day a hot woman breaks into my apartment building, asks to be let inside, and orders me to ride her hard.
I’m getting hard just thinking about it. Then again, she isn’t justanywoman. She’s one of a kind, and my heart is as tangled up with her as she is with my sheets.
Deep in the softness of my bed, Justice snuggles up to me, puts her lips to my ear, and continues whispering soft sounds of appreciation. Not that my ego needs it, but I like making her as happy as she makes me.
I close my eyes and drift off.
“What’s the meaning behind Sandman?”
“Huh?” I pry open my eyes.
“I get your name, Sandesh, because you’re as tasty as any dessert.”
I snort. “My Pakistani great-grandmother made the treats for my mother, and she loved them so much, claiming she’s never found anything as sweet before I was born.”
She smiles. “Smart woman, but why Sandman? You said they called you that in the military.”
She’s so warm against me. Why won’t she go to sleep?
I yawn. “Are you a morning person?”
“Yeah. Didn’t you notice that in Israel?”
“That room was so dark I lost track of night and day. We barely ate.”
“True.” She rubs a hand across my chest. “Answer the question. Why Sandman?”
There are some people you can’t tell secrets to, some people youshouldn’ttell secrets to, and some people youacheto tell secrets to. Justice’s eyes are a velvet night sky that demands soft confessions. What am I to do? “Remember when I said in Israel that I liked you?”
She smiles. “I believe you said you liked me a lot. Maybe more than any woman ever.”
I cup the back of her head, pull her close enough that our foreheads touch. “Nomaybe, Justice. I’ve never felt this way before about anyone.”
We’re so close our breaths mix. She kisses me softly. “Same.”
Strong, grateful emotion rides through me, so I gather all that feeling and confess. “Sandman,” I close my eyes, “because you can sleep easy if I’m on guard duty. I’ve got great hearing and won’t fall asleep on my watch. If something’s out there, I’ll know about it way in advance.”
She snorts lightly. “Funny, I thought it was because you liked to sleep. You seem really sleepy right now.”
