I gently place Ayaka on the couch and go to dispose of the condom. Standing in the bathroom, I run my hands over my face.

I have no idea what to do now. Ayaka is my boss. This isn’t supposed to happen. We are breaking so many rules, but I don’t want to stop. When I wished that for one day she would like me, I wasn’t expecting this.

In fact, I’m not entirely sure if she actually likes me.

I turn off the lights and head back to the living room where Ayaka is lying on her back on the couch.

Fuck. She’s gorgeous.

She’s long and slender. Her black hair is splayed over the pillow. She’s got a tattoo of a type of flower on her hip that I’ve never seen before.

I had no idea such a bombshell was hiding under those suits. But for me, my feelings are about more than what she looks like. Sure, she’s as tense and cold as she seems, but she’s more than that.

When she talks on the phone to her parents, I catch her smiling, using a mix of English and Japanese. Whenever clients bring their kids over, she gives them little origami cranes and kneels down to give it to them. She smiles, and she’s warm and kind to them.

She is really like a cat. Standoff-ish, but can be warm and affectionate when she wants. Trust issues up the wazoo, but when you’re in her circle, she’s loyal to the end.

She’s strong and smart and I can’t help but chuckle at her sarcastic comments. I want to get to know her better. There’s a shield covering Ayaka, and tonight I found a crack in it.

Now we’ll see how much she’s willing to show me.

Chapter 6: Ayaka

HarryandIpanton my couch, trying to catch our breath, tangled up in each other. Our legs and arms are wrapped together, and I kiss Harry’s chest and he kisses the top of my head.

Having sex with Harry is amazing. But this changes our relationship. We’ve crossed the boss/assistant line and we can’t go back. I don’t want to go back. Harry makes me feel good. Like I’m human and alive.

“I didn’t see this coming,” Harry says.

“I didn’t either,” I say. I play with the hairs on his chest and listen to him breathe.

“I mean, that escalated quickly,” I chuckle.

Honesty is typically the best policy and I hate holding this in. Being honest with Harry always makes me feel better. Mostly because I know he wouldn’t judge me.

“Harry, I’m not sure I can go back to being your boss. You know…after this.”

My body tenses as I wait for what Harry has to say.

“I don’t think I can go back, either,” he says, and kisses the top of my head.

Silence fills the room, but my body relaxes. I’m not sure what to say. Sure, neither one of us wants to quit, but that doesn’t automatically solve all our problems. We still have one more week of work before the holidays start. And we’ll be spending it together the entire time. Maybe after that we can set up a plan.

“We’ll figure it out, Ayaka,” Harry says in his usual relaxed tone.

“Did I say that out loud?”

“You didn’t have to. I can feel it in your body.”

It makes me smile, knowing how much Harry knows about me. Even though I’m not as open as most people, he catches things that no one else notices.

“You know me so well,” I say softly.

“Well, yeah. We’ve been working closely together for a long time. Plus, I’ve always liked you so I paid more attention than I should have, probably.”

“Because I’m your boss?”

“Yes.”
