“Yeah, I guess so,” Sophia says, dumping what’s left of her coffee into the sink and rinsing her mug out.

“Why don’t you sound excited?” Kinsley frowns.

Sophia’s gaze flicks in my direction before she looks back at Kinsley.

“I’m just not sure I really want to go. I agreed to it last week, but I’m thinking about cancelling.”

I feel nothing but rage. I want to charge out of the house, find this motherfucker, and kill him with my bare hands. I know it’s irrational, but I seem to lose all rational thoughts when it comes to Sophia.

“That’s a shame. I’ll probably hang out with J after class, so if you decide you need something to do then text me and I’ll come home,” she says before grabbing her keys and leaving.

The air in the kitchen is thick when Kinsley leaves. I’m so fucking angry. I want to pick something up and smash it against the wall. I realize that’s irrational, but at this point, I don’t give a fuck.

I watch Sophia start to leave the room; she’s just made it to the doorway before I speak.

“I’ll fucking kill that guy,” I say, watching her stop dead in her tracks.

She turns around to face me, the anger on her face evident.

“Who do you think you are?” she asks.

“I don’t know how many times I have to tell you, but you’re mine,” I say, stalking towards her.

“I can’t be yours, Knox. You’d never let me in far enough.”

The woman is going to be the death of me, but I’m determined to savor every moment until my very last breath. Can’t she see what she does to me? Can’t she see how crazy she makes me?

I’ve got her backed up against the wall in the kitchen now, and her chest is rising up and down.

“It’s not up for discussion. You’re mine.” My hand goes up to her face, moving a piece of hair out of her eyes.

“Why are you doing this?” she asks, her eyes pleading for answers I’ll never be able to give her.

“I can’t stay away from you. I’ve tried. Fuck, I’ve tried. You’re all I think about it. It’s driving me fucking insane,” I admit, leaning closer to her.

“This would never work,” she whispers.

I can see the tears filling her eyes. I wish I was a good man. I wish I could walk away and leave her alone.

I don’t respond to her, and instead, I brush my thumb across her bottom lip. She sucks in a breath at the contact.

“I’d give anything to be the man that you deserve,” I say, leaning my forehead against hers, our lips so close they're almost touching.

“Everything inside of me is telling me to stay away from you. To protect my heart and throw up those walls. But I can’t. I couldn’t if I tried. Unfortunately, you have the power to destroy me with the snap of your fingers, and that terrifies me.” Her words tremble.

“You’ll need every defense you have to protect yourself from me,” I tell her before leaning in to press my lips against hers.

She melts into the kiss, her hands flying up to my head, her fingers running through my hair.

I cup her face with my hands, exploring her mouth with my tongue. My lips trail from her mouth, down her neck, and to her collar bone. She gasps at the contact, and the sound makes my dick hard.

“I can’t get enough of you,” I tell her before capturing her lips with mine again.

This kiss is deeper. It’s desperate. I grab her by the waist, and she instinctively wraps her legs around me.

Without breaking our kiss, I carry her towards my bedroom door. I’d like to take her right here in the kitchen, but there’s no way in hell I’m taking the risk of someone walking in on us.

I don’t know how I manage to walk down the stairs with her tiny body wrapped around me, our lips never straying from each other.
