“Charlie, no one is your type according to you. You’ve got to branch out a little. Have some fun.” She sighs.

“It’s never fun with boys around here, Cam. They always want more, or they want to keep it going until it’s convenient for them. I don’t want any drama in my life.”

I say that like I wasn’t just chest-to-chest in a dark closet with her brother. Her brother that is off limits to everyone, especially me.

“You can’t let them get into your head, Charlie. You get what you want and move on. Who the fuck cares what anyone else thinks?”

“We can’t all live our lives with your confidence.”

“I’m going to help you with that.” She stops, grabbing my forearms, looking me straight in the eyes. “I hate watching you barely live. I want to see you enjoy life.” This conversation turned serious really fast.

“I love my life, Cam. Just because I don’t want to fuck some random guy at a party doesn’t mean I’m not living.” I roll my eyes, her head rearing back like I slapped her.

I guess that was a little harsh.

“I’m sorry. I'm just in a mood today,” I tell her, trying to smooth things over.

“I get it.” She waves me off, grabbing my hand and leading me into the living room.

The party is in full swing. There are bodies packed into every corner of Cam’s house. Red solo cups litter the tables and countertops, and the lights are dimmed so low it’s almost completely black in here.

I glance out the patio doors and see that several more people have jumped in the pool––some naked, some not. The faint smell of marijuana is floating in the air, and the music is so loud I can barely hear myself think.

“How long until Mr. Jones calls the cops on us?” I shout over to Cam.

“He’s on vacation in Hawaii with his mistress. This party will rage on all night.” She grins.

I smile back, albeit flatly. I’m anxious thinking about how I can avoid Cole for the rest of the night.

Speaking of the devil, Cole is strutting over in our direction, a cocky grin on his face.

I can’t stand him, but I won’t deny he’s fucking gorgeous. That dark, thick hair that just hangs over to one side, dying for you to run your hands through it. His cheekbones, those lips, the dark blue eyes that seem to stare into your soul. How can someone be so beautiful, yet so dangerous at the same time?

“Why do you look like you’re up to something?” Cam asks him as he slides up next to us.

“I’m just enjoying the night,” he says, grinning in my direction.

I’d like to smack the grin right off his gorgeous face.

“Enjoy yourself in a direction that doesn’t involve my friends,” she warns.

I swear it feels like I’m going to die. The dread forming in my stomach is rising, and I think I might be sick.

“Calm down, sis. I wouldn’t touch any of your friends if my life depended on it. I’m not fucking desperate.” He winks at me, and I’m honestly not sure if I’m even breathing anymore.

“Fuck off, Cole,” Cam says before walking away, leaving me alone with the one person I’m trying to avoid.

“I’ll keep it between us, princess.” He leans down, his lips brushing my ear.

I pull away, glaring at him before turning on my heels to walk in the opposite direction. How will I ever survive this summer if he’s sticking around?

Chapter Six

COLE

Charlie is so easy to fuck with. I thought this summer was going to be boring, but maybe I was wrong…

“Dude, this party is the shit,” Tyler says, pulling me away from my thoughts.
