My chest felt tight as I sucked in a breath. The truth spilled like poison from my lips. Utter relief to let the words roll out, expel from my body. “You wish that to be true, but you’re connected to her in a way you’ll never be to me. Ihateit! I don’t even know her, and I despise her because she’s bonded to you.”

He placed his hand on my chest. “I’ll break those bonds for you,you know that.Just give us time to find someone—”

“You have someone, and you pushed her away!” I yelled.

“We need someone who’s not asking for you in exchange,” Steve butted in, eyes heavy on me. “Understand, Jayne. Liam made the right choice. Your safety is not worth our freedom.”

I balled my hands into fists. “It is to me.”

Shoving them aside, I headed for the door.

“Where are you going?” Liam blocked my path.

“To the bus, where else?” I crossed my arms.

Did he think I would leave because I was furious and disagreed with them? I wouldn’t. I wouldn’tevergive up on Liam, but I could and would be mad for as long as I wanted. Their choices mattered because they affected me, too. I knew they cared for me, but I still didn’t understand enough about that vampire stuff. The thought of them changing into monsters at the command of their sire sent chills down my spine. I didn’t want to see the guys change into vampires I didn’t recognize. More than anything, I wanted to save them.

A vein in Liam’s neck jumped as he watched me. “We’ll all go.”

I shrugged. That anger of his seemed to pulse from him as he gritted his teeth.

The three of them walked me to the bus. The screaming and cheering from lingering fans barely registered. I was so wrapped in my thoughts. I locked myself up in the bedroom. My phone vibrated in my hand.

Larissa: You can save them.

I read Larissa’s text a dozen times before I placed my phone on the bed. Someone knocked on the door.

“Jayne.” Liam’s voice wasn’t gentle. It came out like a croak.

“Are you ready to get help?” I asked.

“Jayne.”The doorknob jiggled. “We can’t trust the first person who offers a solution.”

That made sense. But call it a hunch or a deep desire to get Liam away from Marilyn. I believed Larissa meant well. We didn’t have to trust her completely. Just enough to set the guys free. Exhaling deeply, I didn’t reply.

The door jerked slightly. “You know this lock means nothing, right?”

My clit got that insistent tingle I tried to ignore. Ugh. Liam and his words shouldn’t turn me into putty. He threatened to break down my door, and my pussy gushed for him.Ridiculous! Now he wants to talk and be around me?

“The door was unlocked the night before and it kept you out. In fact, you stayed away all on your own, barely saying two words to—”

“You don’t understand.” The doorknob wiggled again. “Jayne, my heartbeat girl….”

My heart fluttered, and I shook my head. No!Him being distant had hurt my feelings. It didn’t matter how broken he sounded. After our first night of him drinking from me, he went cold. An explanation and an apology were needed.

“I’m going to sleep.”

I jumped when something cracked. My eyes widened as the knob fell to the floor, and Liam stepped through and shut the door behind him.

“Was that necessary?”

“Was it necessary for you to lock me out?” he countered.

I pursed my lips but said nothing.

“I miss you,” he whispered, and I held my breath as I looked at him.

He seemed like a fallen angel, standing there in the darkened room. My soul ached. I didn’t want to be mad at him, but I couldn’t give in either.
