And that was the plan. To test that theory, I had to try something.

Balling my hands, I sighed. I’d given Jayne long enough. I didn’t want to fight with her. I wanted toholdher forever. Those pouty lips she’d given me all day drove me insane.

Following her heartbeat, I found her talking to Rupert. With a smile, I tugged her away from him. She puffed her cheeks out, growing red with her anger, but kept herself from blowing by balling her hands into fists since we were around people.

“Don’t do that,” she whispered as she tried to pry my hand from her wrist.

“Then don’t run from me,” I said.

“Then listen, and I won’t!” she fired back.

I stopped, and we stood there festering with a negative energy I hated. Fuck! I wanted to shove her against the closest wall and kiss her until all the anger bled out. Instead, I said, “Please, see it from my viewpoint, Jayne. We don’t know those vampires. Larissa could be someone Marilyn knows.”

“You don’t get to do that. You pulled me into something, Liam, and I’m allowed to choose how I react. Just like you’re terrified of losing me,I will not lose you.”

“You won’t,” I said, tugging Jayne closer. She tried to pull away from me. “I don’t want to argue with you. It hurts when you reject me.”

With those words, her body slackened, and she let me hug her. “I’m not rejecting you. I just want to break the bond that links you to another.”

“Nothing is stronger than what I feel every second and minute for you.”

Her body and heart softened. “I still think Larissa wants to help us.”

I rubbed my face against Jayne’s hair, breathing in her scent before moving to her ear. “We can agree to disagree.”

Jayne shivered in my arms. When someone walked by us, she stepped back.

“I’m selfish, I’m greedy, and I don’t care,” Jayne said.

She splayed her fingers against my chest and ran them up my neck, then to my cheek. I lived for her touch.

“I want all of you, Liam, and I can’t have that when I don’t want to fall asleep at night because I’mterrified. That Marilyn will call you away at night, and you’ll be gone forever.” Jayne gripped my shirt. “I can’t stand this,” she whimpered before breaking away from me.

“Marilyn controlled me because you weren’t in my life yet. Nothing will keep me away from you.”

“You say that, but you guys told me how her words were law and that you couldn’t deny anything she wants you to do.”

“That is true,” I admitted. “But it’s different with you. I don’t understand how I know, but I do.” When Jayne hid her face from me, I grabbed her hand. “I have a plan. If it doesn’t work, we’ll get to know Larissa, and I’ll decide from there.”

Jayne’s head lifted. I let go of her hand so she could wipe her eyes. “You have a plan?” When I nodded, she smiled. “Well, why didn’t you say so!”

“Because it might not work, and I haven’t told Pete and Steve yet.” When she bit her bottom lip, I asked, “Have you canceled the rest of the tour dates?”

She pinched her nose and sighed. “Black Hearts is furious. They want you guys to pay out of pocket for all expenses lost.”

“That’s fine,” I said.

“I figured you’d say that.” She tilted her head at me. “So, we’re going to Marilyn?”

“Unfortunately.”

Any other time, I would put a million miles between her and Marilyn. But in that case, I knew I needed Jayne if my assumptions were right.

Jayne could reach me through Marilyn’s control.
