“So, can I kiss them or not?”

He laced his fingers together and braced them behind his head. “Be my guest.”

I kissed all six individually, pressing my thighs together to relieve the ache between my legs. Johannes shuddered every time my lips touched his skin.

“You’re not used to this, are you?”

“Used to what?”

“Intimacy.”

His face darkened, his eyes turning to stone. “No.”

“Do you dislike it?”

He paused, staring at the ceiling for a few moments. Eventually, he gave me his attention.

“With you, maybe not.”

For Johannes, that was a huge admission. An enormous step. The more time I spent with this intriguing man, the greater my understanding of him grew.

“Have you ever slept with a woman face-to-face and unclothed?”

He rolled onto his side and tucked both hands beneath his head. In that moment, he looked boyish, his usual harsh features softening. His eyes glazed as he looked at me, as if he was physically here but his mind was somewhere else. “Yes.”

“How long ago was that?”

He made a frustrated noise. “You do like to push, don’t you?”

“Meh.” I shrugged. “You’ve had your dick in my pussy. I think that entitles me to ask a question or two.”

He snort-laughed, and I almost fell off the bed. God, he was transforming right before my eyes. I only hoped it would last.

“Truth for a truth.”

I grimaced. Last time, I’d avoided sharing a snippet of my past, even though he’d shared a snippet of his. Something told me I wouldn’t get away with it a second time.

“Okay.” I motioned to him. “You answer mine first.”

“A little over six years ago.”

Six years?

His comment in the car right before we’d kissed fired into my mind.

“I almost died a few years ago”.

“A few” could be six. Were the two things connected? I wrinkled my nose, curiosity pushing me to ask a follow-up question.

“What happened?”

He shook his head. “A truth for a truth. You asked for a time. I gave it to you. My turn.”

Shit. I logged away the nugget of information for the next time we played this game. If, in fact, we did.

I held my breath, bracing for what was to come.

“Who are you running from?”
