I nodded, agreeing with her as I moved closer. She watched me wearily but kept talking all the same. She had plans to disappear. She honestly should have thought about that sooner. No loose ends left behind. I snatched the knife from her calf and rammed it into her throat mid-sentence. Her eyes widened, and her mouth opened and closed like a fish.

I left the blade in to keep from having blood spray everywhere. The less we had to clean up, the better. The light left her blue eyes, and Darla slumped over.

“There, all done. Did you get the phone?” I asked Tony.

He put his gun away and nodded. “You need to call Benito.”

“Is that necessary? We can handle this.”

Tony shook his head and took a few steps back. “There is no we. Call him. He’s the only one who can help you get out of this mess you just created.”

“Hey, don’t make it seem like all I do is cause problems.”

Tony shook his head at me, and I flipped him off. “Lee wasn’t some nameless asshole. Benito needs to know.”

“And I will tell him.”

Tony cocked a brow as if he didn’t believe me.

I groaned. “He has a lot on his plate right now.”

Tony sighed. “I’ll tell him.”

“No.” My stomach turned.

“There are rules,” Tony stressed.

“You guys weren’t going to be able to touch him. In the end, Lee had to die; he was aiming for Benito’s head.”

“There arerulesin place,” he stressed. “You just shit all over them. Can’t just go and kill important people.”

My stomach knotted. I didn’t want to call Benito. He wasn’t going to be happy with me. I wouldn’t normally care except… I cared how Benito felt about me lately. How fucked up is that?

Fuck. I pulled my phone out, and my thumb hovered over Benito’s number.Just call. Don’t be a pussy.

I scrolled down and called Quincy instead.

“Finally leaving your husband?”

“What? No.” I glanced at the bodies on the bed. “I got takeout and wanted you to come have some with me. Maybe a few other friends can join.”

Quincy was silent for a bit before he sighed. “I can come. I’m famished anyway. Our friends won’t be able to make it. Heard their boss at work cracked down on them. They have no free time.”

My father had found out a few of the guys from my syndicate had still been helping me. Fuck, leave it to that bastard to isolate me completely.

“Okay, I’ll send the address.”

I hung up the phone and walked over to both bodies pulling my knives free.

“That wasn’t Benito,” Tony said.

“You said you aren’t a part of this. Stay over there and hush.” I went about getting what I could ready for when Quincy arrived. I had all their clothes packed up and Darla’s items stored. They only met up to fuck, or at least that was the case for Lee. Darla had an entire suitcase worth of shit.

An hour and forty minutes later, there was a soft knock at the door. Tony watched me as I headed for the door. I checked the peephole and let Quincy in.

“I swear you only call to make my life difficult.”

“Good to see you too,” I said.
